I'm using a Bassman 250 with an Ampeg tube MP up front. I occasionally use a Boss BP200 (fairly old model) effects pedal.

Basses are a 1998 fretless P (US made), a 5 string J MIM, a Gibson SG (the current repro model), Breedlove acoustic/electric and I'm now playing around with an Ocean 4 string fretless.

The Ocean with active pups and the fretless P are almost at opposite ends of the sound spectrum. Makes for a cool contrast!

Thanks!

By the way, my fingers got ahead of my brain on that post. What I have plugged in at the moment is an ART Tube MP "Professional Series". This features a few controls including independent gain and output levels, low pass filter and impedance match.

I also have an Ampeg tube DI -- the Ampeg SVTDI. There are no controls except bypass. In truth, I prefer the Ampeg with bass because it's simple and adds just a nice bit of warm coloring. The ART works better with a 6 string and I normally use it for that plugged into my Line 6 Douverb.

Well I figured you either meant the Ampeg SVT DI or the the SVT Pre-Amp. Either way you slice it, it's an excellent choice!

My gig rig right now is an Ampeg B2RE 450 watt all solid state head, Fender RT1000 rack tuner powered by a Furman M-8D power conditioner in an MTS rack case. I really like the MTS case by the way and they are a great value and pretty durable. My speakers are an Avatar Neo 115 on the bottom and an Avatar 210 loaded with Deltas on top. Both these cabs are discontinued as Avatar no longer makes a 15 that I know of and loads only NEO speakers in everything now. I use an XLR out to the PA from the Ampeg head, so the stack is more of a stage monitor than anything else.

Image

My MIM P-bass was on the left, the Japanese ’51 reissue is on the right.

My pedal board consists of a Whirlwind Selector A/B/Y switch to an Aphex Bass Xciter pedal to a Behringer V-Tone BDI-21 bass pedal for some overdrive when I need it which runs to an Aphex Punch Factory Compressor pedal. There is also a Morley footswitch to control the mute function on the Fender rack tuner.

Image

I have a 1976 Peavey Century 200 head as a backup. I also can go direct to the PA board from the Aphex compressor pedal as a backup to the backup.

My rehearsal/home practice amp is now a tiny little Line 6 Studio 110 I got a few months ago to replace both the Peavey Basic 112 I was using at rehearsals and home practice up until rigging up the little mixer for headphone practice much to the wife’s delight. My son's bandmate now has that Peavey Basic 112 so it rocks on.

Image

For home practice or home recording I take the XLR out from the Line 6 Studio 110 into a mic channel on a tiny little Behringer 1002 mixer and run the main out from the mixer my computer's soundcard and rehearse with headphones so I don't bother the rest of the family. My favorite setting on the Line 6 Studio 110 is the "BRIT" setting, which is a hidden preset you have to read the manual to locate. When you follow the directions in the manual the "BRIT" sound replaces the "CLEAN" setting which I didn't like anyway. The BRIT setting works well for me to practice at home or rehearse with the band. Sounds a lot like tube amps I've used over the years unless you crank up the DRIVE and it starts to sound really distorted. The little Line 6 amp has a lot of useless features, but the BRIT sound, XLR direct out, built in compressor and the fact it can be heard over our cymbal happy drummer I do like. (The R&B setting is supposed to be modeled after an Ampeg B15, but I don't know what B15 they used because it doesn't sound at all like my old B15 either direct or through the speaker.)

Image

I use a Fender pedal tuner whenever I'm not using my gig rig. Besides basses, Fender makes some really good pedal and rack tuners!

While this is a RIG thread I could not post photos without showing you BLONDINE. She's on the left in the following photo and is the only bass I’ve ever actually named. My kid gets her when I don’t need it. This is the one I play the most and the only thing I have that is NOT for sale.

Thanks. It works for what I need it to do which is a few local gigs a month. A big consideration is that I can move it all by myself and fit it in my car.

Don't we all (bass players) have to deal with this heavy moving stuff?! Dang it, even drummers have it easy when it comes to gigs, they break things up into little pieces, all light moving, not us, just our amp heads are heavy, that's before moving the cab :x :D

The keyboard player and I have decided....in our next life we will be star vocalists! We won't have to buy gear, maintain gear, load gear in, set gear up, or load gear out. All we will have to do is show up all happy and fresh a few minutes before the show and sing! :P

In fairness to the drummers it takes them longer to put all those itty-bitty pieces together. Our drummer is usually the first in and the last out.

The '51 sunburst has Fender reissue covers on it. I think they were originally made for custom shop basses and then added to the general parts lineup.
The pickup cover is Fender part # 003-3167-000
The bridge cover is Fender part # 003-2979-000
I bought that bass new and put the covers on myself.
