I picked up my bass to play along with Babbit on a video of "Standing in the Shadows of Motown." The song was J. Ruffin's "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?"
He was tuned a half-step down (Sunburst P-Bass). He had a white P-Bass nearby on a stand, probably tuned standard.
In several bands in the past, I had to tune down to help the vocals.
But Babbit tuning down during the Funk Brothers reunion surprised me.
How many of y'all tune down?

I don't. Surprised BB did. I have an expander on a Performer and Urge, but I have never used them beyond the walls of my music room. Too many moving parts for an old guy like me. That is a great DVD though, and I learned about it from a fan, not a player, the last guy in the world I thought would have a thing going for the Funk Brothers.

Fortunately I play with guys who don't want a bunch of different tunings. I don't like tuning down.

I play a lot of Drive-By Truckers stuff and they tune down a full step, so I usually keep my P bass a full step down and my Jazz in standard so I can switch around.

For the most part I'm religiously tuned down half a step to Eb and occasionally tuning down to D standard, but nowadays I'm mainly in E with the addition of a Hipshot Drop-D tuner installed, when needed.

Still, nothing beats Eb as far as I'm concerned!
