Good idea....but I think it would be even better if Fender extended the retainer arm an additional centimeter or so. Perhaps a little closer between the E and A string post.

Me think you mean string retainer. Yes? Move string retainer closer to zee nut? Yes? I know not why Fender does not move it but there has to be a reason like wood has no effect on the sound of a bass. That wood be a good reason not to move it.

Yes moving it closer to the nut...not a great distance, but long enough to make a significant impact.
