Hi,

Just wondering what the compound radius is on the 2012 Am Deluxe P-Bass is?

9.5"-??

Does it even have a compound radius?

Website search shows the 2012 Am Deluxe P-Bass bass listed with a "9.5" compound radius" and Fender's site lists it as just a 9.5" radius. Every other American Deluxe Series Bass/ Guitars lists the full 9.5"-14" compound radius measurement when searched on the web.

Little confusing....

Thanks

That is a very good question. While a generic feature of the American Deluxe Series is touted to be a compound radius, neither the specs nor the description for the American Deluxe Precision mentions the word compound at all! Very observant! I'm sort of on the fence about a compound radius being a real benefit for a bassist anyway. The lack of a compound radius would not be a deal breaker for me at all. I think a compound radius makes more of a difference to electric Spanish players. Really it is all about what you get used to playing.

Thanks for chiming in BD :D

I actually emailed consumer relations, and this was the reply I received today clarifying the radius query...

Thanks for writing in!
The radius for the American Deluxe Precision bass is going to be a constant 9.5" radius for the whole neck! I'm not sure why there's information stating it's compound out there, but rest assured, it's a steady 9.5".

This begs the question:

Has any Fender bass model ever had a compound radius?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Just the brand new American Dimension bass is the only one I'm aware of: 9 1/2" - 14".

And the New Vintage Hot Rod '70s Jazz bass with P/J set up. this model released a couple of weeks ago has a compound radius of 7.25" to 12" check it out,

I'm actually suprised that there's been no mention of this bass on the forum,.... this bass has an American Vintage '63 split coil P Bass pick up & an American Vintage '74 single coil Jazz bass pick up & a (Leo Quan style) Fender High Mass bridge
I'd love to hear this bass .... :)

Some previous USA Deluxe models did have a compound radius I think. It appears they have gone back to constant radius on basses. A compound radius is more of an advantage I think on a Spanish electric for solo bends. I know one deluxe jazz i looked at a year or two ago seemed to have a compound radius whether it actually did or not. I also don't know how a compound radius would impact setups but would like to know as I'm sure the measurements would be different. Maybe some guitar guys with compound radius instruments already know and can share.
