First time post but 40 year Precision Bass owner (blonde ash body, maple neck bought at Sam Ash in 72).

A friend took a 93 (serial starts with VN3) Korean Precision Bass on trade for some carpentry work. I've never seen a Fender with the color, its like Mystic Blue but not metallic. I'm a big fan of MIM Pbasses and Squiers that play well.

Tomorrow I'm going to put some Sadowsky Blacks on it and see how it plays but in the meantime I thought I'd ask if anyone is willing to ballpark what it might be worth?

The images aren't working.

These were made by Cort/Cor-Tek who makes decent basses but with electronics that tend to vary a lot from brand to brand. Ibanez ones in the early 21st century were stellar, less so the Epiphones of around the turn of the century. I can't quote a value. Probably in the same ballpark as a used MIM P-Bass of the same vintage though. You'd be safe to use that as a rough guideline of the maximum value.

While they are scarce around where I live, they are not considered collectible or investment grade instruments. Now and then a few filter into the US secondary market from Asia or Europe where they are far more abundant than in the USA.

I think he will sell it for $200 so unless I find a glaring problem with it I will buy. Back in the 90's I used to go into East Coast Music in Danbury CT, they usually had about 30 MIM's and Squiers hanging up at a time. If I tried them all there was always at least one that felt, sounded and played like a good pbass should. I selected 6 of them over the years for friends and they all still have them.

This bass has probably been sitting around for years unstrung. I put the Sadowsky Blacks on it, left it tuned low for a few hours and then tuned it to E. It was a bit surreal because it's like it was just setup, the intonation was perfect, action exactly where I set it, no buzzy notes on the neck. Sounded great through a practice amp. I don't think this bass has actually been played at all. I bought it.

It would be a "buy" for anything under $200 here for sure.

One of the things that threw me off about this bass when I first saw it was the color. It made me suspicious that the bass was a fender knockoff. Subsequently I've researched and found a lot of interesting info about Fender colors. One thing I never knew is that the vintage colors were closely related to 50's car paints from Dupont. This bass is one of the "International Colors" developed in the 80's - it's called Maui Blue. After playing it for the last few days I can confirm it's one of those Fenders not built in the USA that plays and sounds great.
