I don't usually use the phrase Dude!! ....but Dude!!! this is a unique sweet sounding Fretless bass that kicksass !! definitely no need for mods,...check out Tony Franklin's promo videos for this Bass on You Tube,....... I really like the pickups on this bass,....I'm not sure if the P-bass split coil pickup was customized ...but they refer to the P- bass pickup as an American Series Tony Franklin split coil pickup.... The Jaco Fretless gets a lot of love here on the Forum but I think the Tony Franklin Fretless P- Bass deserves just as much love.... :)

Too bad the TF fretless is not offered with an unlined maple neck option. :(

This bass isn't offered with a maple neck/fretboard because Tony Franklin's Fretless basses don't have a maple fret board on them,......I think Tony's request to put an ebony fret board on these basses was an awesome idea,........& the only way a maple neck would look good on these basses would be to offer a fretless with natural finish or a finish that shows the wood grain on the body,.....& actually Tony Franklin'n fretted bass is a Amber Gold finish that shows the wood grain & it has a Maple neck,.......and another color available for his Fretted bass with maple neck is Olympic White..... The story that Tony tells is when he got his first Fender bass in the 70's when he was a kid it was Olympic White,......then at some point a few years later he stripped the color on the body & thus his frettted bass is currently Amber Gold... that's why Fender offers his fretted bass in these 2 colors....
