Hi, I recently bought a used Fender P-Bass from a guy I've known for several years now, and let's say I "trust" him. The thing is, the bass looks kind of strange to me... Something doesn't feel right, even though I got it with its original hard shell case. The "serial number" text looks strange as well. I will post the pictures for you to judge. They were taken right now with my iPhone, but if you want I can take some more pictures of the finish and other details tomorrow in the morning.

I see what you mean about it. I looked at product dating in Fender support, here's what it said.

N7 + 5 or 6 digits
N8 + 5 or 6 digits
V + 5 or 6 digits (American Vintage Series) 1998
N8 + 5 or 6 DIGITS
N9 + 5 or 6 digits
V + 5 or 6 digits (American Vintage Series except ’52 Telecaster)

I just bought a 1997 Fretless Jazz, it's a little different fom my newer basses.

Be patient, there will be someone who can help.

Definitely post more pics.

Welcome to the forum Antonio. I see nothing out of bounds in the photos posted. The serial looks legit. The part of the script that says "serial number" is almost never right on a forgery. Hardware, truss rod adjustment location, pickguard, etc that I can see in the small photos all looks stock. But if it doesn't "FEEL" right to you then that is a very important indication that something could be amiss since the little voices in my head are right more than they are wrong.

When I run the serial through the Guitar Dater Project online it outputs:
Your guitar was made at the
Corona Plant (Fender), USA
in the Year(s): 1998 - 1999
So the serial is ok.

Would need more photos and shots of neck paddle and body neck pocket, electronics, etc along with closeups of the entire thing to say 100% for sure, but from what little I can see in the limited photos there is nothing to point to and say that it is "sketchy."

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I sometimes tend to agree that this is indeed a sketchy P bass--- but it has no color. Efforts should be made to name the color besides calling it "no". :?:
