They're really letting Mr. Billy Sheehan down at Yamaha imo..cheapening his bass. Poor guy...there's a youtube vid of him explaining all the new "improvements" they've made with his signature model. You can kinda tell it's half-heartedly. The Attitude model used to be AWESOME.

Fender uses better wood, anyhow. It would be great to at least see a Fender version of "The Wife".

Ikebe, one of the big Japanese retailers, has on occasion had exclusive Fender Japan models:

Not exact copies obviously - I really like the one with the Tele headstock.

I have a mid-'70s Telecaster Bass that had been modded by the previous owner, first routed for the OPB single-coil, then for the split-coil. Back when I bought it in the early-'90s (for $250!) someone helped me get a NOS humbucker - later I had it refinished and Alembic Activator pups for the split coil. The humbucker and split-coil have completely separate outputs. It's not a tribute by any means, but Billy was definitely in the back of my mind with this one:

Agreed, it would be great if he came back to Fender!

I saw a pic of Billy with an Alembic Series I. I guess he had to sell it to eat. I'm interested in all things Billy.

Nice Telebass!

There is one guy who had an exact replica of Billy's "wife" bass - you should be able to find pictures over at talkbass.com - personally I'm not really into replicas like that, but I don't mind signature models.
