I went back to an Am. Std. Precision. It sounds great through the Markbass, and doesn't kill my left wrist when I play. And, no Neck Dive of Death like the SG Std. has. Live and learn. When I find or order a white pearl PG, that's going on it.

Good decision to purchase a sunburst rosewood neck American Standard Precision Bass with a tort guard. It compliments the sunburst Jazz Bass you've recently sold. :)

In your place I would keep the tort guard.

The white pearl better suits a maple neck.

I think a white pearl would be killer! Maybe not as stunning as a black glass sparkle, but great!

Very nice. I love the tort guards, they have such history to them. Welcome back to Fender.

+1

The tort guard blends nicely the rosewood neck and sunburst finish.

Your bass would look cooler with ashtray covers and a thumbrest.

Mr Nylon- you are the gasses, tradest, buyest, multi bassist , person. You change basses about once every few months or better. You must have a ton of basses.... or just one. I kind of like all of them you do or don't have except maybe the Gibsonest bass you had. :D

I should talk I know. I've dun went thru a lot in the last however many years since I've been knowing you on up here and there.

I feel good when I write weird. W E I R D. Oh yeah.

Hey SV. Yeah,........... They come and go. No, I don't have a room full of basses. Just one bass.

My very first "name brand" bass was a Gibson SG back when I was just a young pup. I hated the neck drop of death you mentioned. I used to try everything to try to control it. There were some amusing episodes, like the time I thought maybe a rough surface on the strap would help. I picked out a split leather strap that was quite rough on the inside. The first time I let go of the neck with the new strap was not at rehearsal, no that would have been intelligent, it was on stage and the falling neck was not slowed down one little iota by the rough strap gripping at my shirt. It did however pull my shirt right out of my pants and gathered it all up around my neck and almost strangled me. That was embarrassing to say the least.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

My 1969 EB0 wasn't as much of the Neck Dive as the SG Std.'s are. The necks are a bit trimmer on the newer SG Std.'s, but the bodies are lighter to.

Stick with the Tort Gaurd Glenn,... & with regard to Gibson,..... I've always wanted to add a Thunderbird Bass to the Arsenal don't know if I ever will.....it's just a thought that's lingered in the back of my head since I was a kid in the '70's & I'd see photo's of bass players in Magazine's like Hit Parade, Creem or Guitar Player ....I always thought it was a cool looking bass.

Gibson doesn't seem to go to far with basses for players. You either like them, or you don't.
