The new Fender Swirl finish is only available at this time on Standard Stratocasters and Standard Telecasters for a $50 up-charge.

There is no option yet for a Fender Bass in that finish. I really hope they offer one, I'd order one sight unseen. I think the finish is unique and going to be collectible down the road. No two are exactly alike. That appeals to me also.

So vote on whether or not you'd buy one and maybe they'll get the message!

+1!

Not only a Precision.

The Jazz also deserves a swirled treatment.

I think if they do one they'll do both.

For this swirly bass pair I suggest a maple neck Precision and a rosewood neck Jazz.

I should have bought the splatter model when it was out back in the 90's. Those are prob worth some jack by now. I haven't seen one in years. Those were 6 strings only as far as I know. Never saw a splatter bass. A Swirly would be nice.

There was a finish like this before during the last 2 years of CBS ownership, but it was usually referred to as a Bowling Ball finish. I've only ever seen it on 1983 Strats and Teles. They are very, very scarce.

Here's a 1983 Bowling Ball finished Strat and then a 1983 Bowling Ball Tele:

The SPLATTER Telecasters were MIM Standards released in 2003. Here's some.

A 1983 Bowling Ball Stratocaster just sold recently for $4,200. It was claimed only 150 were made, not sure about that claim though. It was not a particularly good example either.

Randy Travis owned a Bowling Ball Telecaster, it is for sale at this time but the price is sort of a "if you have to ask you can't afford it" type thing. I'd estimate over 9K.

On the other hand (sorry for the Travis song reference, it just happened) there are 2003 MIM Splatter Strats around for about $750. Still I think that is about 50% more than they cost new. They are never going down in value. While not as limited as the Bowling Ball USA late CBS era Strats the MIM Splatter Strats are still scarce.

Yes, I'd like one. There's something about how that blue pops out that I find striking. At least it's something different than the usual 3 or 4 colours you often get.

Hello Brotherdave!! It's been a long time since my last post!! But I'm back!! :D

Now regarding the swirl finish, I'm sorry but I prefer the more traditional see thru finishes!! However, maybe a maple neck with black binding/ block inlays and black hardware with a blue pearl or black pearloid pickguard and I could change my mind!!!

Yeah preference is up to whoever has a preference. I'd still like to have a bowling ball, a splatter and the swirl just for the oddity of it and there is the value increase and that is a good thing. It's like none of us play music for the money. We play for the love of music but I like it when they give me money. It just doesn't hurt. :D

If I remember right the splatter paint jobs have a texture to them. It seemed like it wouldn't take much to chip or wear out the finish / paint.. I don't think the bowling balls were like that and I would think maybe the swirls wouldn't be. Does anyone know?

I was a bit off on my dating of when the splatters were available. I do that more and more now :? . What seems like weeks are only days.

Well up to this point it seems th Fender Marketing Wizards were on the money not to offer SWIRL basses since there is little interest and lots of people who flat out think it is ugly.
