I've got 5 Artist models, CIJ Geddy Lee Jazz,( I'm a fan & it's a great playing Bass). MIJ Marcus Miller 4 String (great playing versitile bass), MIJ Steve Harris P-Bass ( let me tell ya that chrome pick Guard scratches easy from just playing )
I also have a MIM Reggie Hamilton Jazz (I bought this bass last year because I think it's the swiss army knife of Basses...P/J setup, active/ Passive, with a Hipshot drop D Bass Extender .....there's a lot going on with this bass & it's great bang for the buck) & a MIA Jaco Pastorius Fretless bass..( I'm a fan & never owned a fretless before & when I picked this bass up & started playing..the neck felt like butter,....this is a simple yet awesome Bass)
They're all there in my avatar (except for the reggie Hamilton Bass) there's also my 2011 American Deluxe Jazz 5 & an Ibanez Acoustic in that photo.. I have to get around to opening a Flickr account at some point.

I agree with linnin, play the puppy! Unless you are talking a serious historical bass worth thousands....gig it too. Life it to short to just look.

I have a Jaco Jazz, fretless and Stu Hamm Urge I and II. All MIA. I don't suppose any of those belong on a Precision Bass post....well Stu Hamm kinda sorta.

My Marcus Miller Bass gets played the most (do your self a favor & get one....I should mention that as of last year this bass is made in Mexico), I got my Steve Harris P-Bass in April 2009 right when it went to market....this bass also gets frequently played..... & as I said the chrome Pick Guard on this bass has a lot of finger nail scratches....from 4 yrs of playing......I'm ordering a replacement Chrome pick guard from Fender....that I'm going to keep in in the event that I possibly sell it one day...though I doubt I will.....

i will tell you what if i ever gig this thing it will boost my sound like no other bass just playing it unplugged the deep sound that comes from them flatwounds are incredible especially with the bad $@! bridge and the overall heavy weight of the bass its great just to jam unplugged and when plugged in is phenomenal

What finish is your marcus miller? i always wanted the white or natural finish both look amazing. funny you mention the chrome guard like i said i played very few minutes on my steve harris and not enough to scratch the guard but i do enjoy pulling out and polishing it(like a zen guarding very relaxing lol) but it has developed scratches just from being polished and i use a custom shop polish cloth very plush like it is very susceptible to scratched even as unplayed as mine is

Not to rain on your parade, but how is a mass production signature model a collectors' item?

Unless it is a Custom Shop one of a kind or was used by an artist with supporting provenance, a run of the mill signature model has no more financial worth than any other owned Bass.

I have the natural finish Marcus Miller Jazz bass, & currently have my sights on a 3 tone Sunburst Marcus Miller Jazz 5 string,...... it doesn't take much to scratch a chrome pick guard.

I guess I bought the wrong signature basses. The ones I had were a big let down. I don't want to say which ones do to the fact I may sound biased. 8)

Im not collecting it for that value i just see a bunch of stories on guys who keep that closet classic and have it around for forever just thought it would be a nice bass to keep prestine i got my other fenders to beat up but hard to keep my hands off the bass its quality made despite its not a MIA
