I've bought an '05 MIA Precision. Serial number check verifies location and year. If it were brand new I'd call it an American Standard, but I just read on Fender.com that the American Standard series was discontinued in 2000 and reintroduced in 2008. So what do I call this? Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.

In 2001 they changed the name of the American Standard to American Series. Changed it back in 2008.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

There also was another USA made model called the HIGHWAY ONE model at this time. You can either post photos or send your serial to Fender Consumer Relations and they'll check their records for your serial and reply with what data they have. It may be American Series or it may be a Highway One as both were marked MADE IN USA.

One easy way to tell is the American Series has deluxe tuners, the Highway One has standard 70's style tuners. Another way to tell is the American Series had your standard high gloss poly body finish while the Highway One had a thin-skinned satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish.
