Bass People,
I'm surprized there's not a thread comparing the '62 with the '63 Reissue P-Basses (Have I over-looked it?).
I've read the specs on the '63 but want to hear personal opinions.
Are they selling well?
Do I have to have one?
Sound differences?
Lacquer coat differences?
Stain on maple neck differences?
(I could go on...)

Thanks for your considered opinions.

Pickup different. The pickup in the 62 RI P-Bass is an amazing pickup that was sold as an accessory called the Fender Original Precision Bass Set (part number is 0992046.) It is the fullest range split coil P-Bass pickup I ever used. It totally blew me away with all the upper mids. Just awesome. Haven't tried the 63 RI so can't say. I think the 62 RI P-Bass would be hard to top. Maybe they did it. Wow what a pickup in that '62. To tame all the upper mids they used a 0.10uF tone cap instead of the standard 0.05uF. However I am using a 0.05uF with one and it sounds darn close to a first generation single coil bass. Lots of punchy punch. Just amazing. Here is what the retail packaging looks like:

Best $70 I ever spent.
