Hey guys!

I'm James, this is my first post...

I recently bought the above base in fiesta red from guitarguitar dot co dot uk for £656 the website says it comes with a delux gigbag. However am I right in thinking it should come with a hard case? ive seen other ads for 50's precision and they come with a hard case?

Im guessing being a new guitar it will come with all the relevant fender candy? tags of authenticity polishing cloth truss rod wrench?

Im hoping someone on here whois a bit more clued up may have the answers for me

Thanks again
James

No a classic 50's doesn't come with a case. Not sure about the candy. It's a mexican bass. I think that's what's up with that. I have a creme color one and it's a nice bass. I don't hesitate to use it for gigs. It's pretty much the same as a Roadworn (with out the Roadworn finish process.) The 50's and the RW have an old bass feel to them and they are not real heavy.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

So it only comes with a gig bag? no truss rod wrench or anything? would of thought that would be standard stuff to get with a bass at over £600 you get that stuff as standard with a warwick or even an Ibanez lol

oh well, its all about the sound I guess that's what your paying for.

I had never been a fan of the p-bass. never liked the retro styling but overtime ive grown to like it and you cant dispute the sound! when I picked it up and played it (same model) I knew I had to have it! 8)

Rules might be different for UK? Or maybe contact the store you bought it from - they might have forgotten or the salesperson may not have known...

Oh yes, and welcome to the Precision side!

+1

A classic 50s Precision Bass doesn't come with a tugbar and ashtray covers - as opposed to their AVS counterparts.
The anodised guard is already drilled for a neck ashtray cover and a thumbrest, allowing everyone to put those cosmetics if desired.

In order to fit a bridge ashtray cover you'll need to drill two extra holes.

And you're telling us this Why ????? where in canning_james post does he express a desire to add a tug bar & ash tray covers???? canning_james wanted to know if his '50's P-bass should of come with a hard shell case & the usually case candy.

Congats on your first Fender purchase canning_james a P-Bass is a great place to start..

I experienced the same thing when I bought my Fender Made in Mexico Reggie Hamilton Jazz bass
My bass has a vintage slotted truss rod that requires a standard screw driver to make adjustments & the bridge is also a vintage 4 saddle bridge that also requires a screw driver to make adjustments,......you have the same truss type rod & bridge so that's probably why you didn't get the extra stuff,.......... I'm sure that if you bought a Mexican Fender that required a hex key to make bridge & neck adjustments as some of their models do, Fender would of included these with the gig bag.... Hope this helps :)

Hi and thanks for all the replies! :)

Im sorry if I hadn't made my post very clear.'i haven't received the bass yet, it should be delivered on Tuesday.

The reason I asked my question was that after I purchased the bass I was killing some time doing some looking around online after typing in "fender classic series 50's precision" and saw what looked like people with the same bass that I have ordered but they had a hard case and all the "bass candy" and was curious as to whether my bass would come with the same goodies but I think the ones I had seen online may have been a newer version of it with a new paint finish and maybe an American standard. Looks just like what I have ordered though but mine is MIMmso was a little confused.

Thanks again this isn't my first fender unused to have a lovely sage min green MIM jazz bass that I loved dearly but it got stolen :(

The export instruments sometimes get different packing. Might not even have a gig bag. At one time the UK distributor (Selmer) bought them case-less and cased them in local cases they contracted. This was when every Fender sold in the USA came in a hard case and every Fender was made in the USA. Times change, and the distributor has changed from then. So I honestly don't know about now. I do know for a fact though that the warranty on export instruments is still administered by the distributor, not by FMIC. That is a really nice instrument and I'm sure you'll love it! It is worthy of finding a hard case for it.

Dave's right,...even if the bass you've purchased comes with a gig bag do yourself a favor & buy a hard shell case for your investment.
I have 3 Made in Japan Fender basses that came with gig bags & the first thing I did was get them a hard shell case,.....I now have to do the same for my Mexican Jazz bass.
Hard shell cases give you piece of mind...IMO :)

I just happen to read this and thought I'd chime in. It would probably be in your best interest to pick up a hard case for your bass. I'm not sure if all of Fender gig bags are like this, but I once had one that came with a P-Bass I once had and it was total rubbish. All of the zippers on it became rather brittle and completely broke off. I had to throw the thing away because it became useless after that. You really can't go wrong with a hard case, even though a gig bag is easier to transport.

No one has said this yet but you should get a hardshell case for that new bass. Get one that fits it right. You CAN get a case that doesn't fit that bass right and it will not be good for the neck of the bass. The proper support in the proper place is important, So many people buy those $40 dollar tweed cases and they do not fit the bass right. The upper bouts (of the body) are up off the floor of the case and the lower part of the compartment in the case falls right in an area of the back of the neck that takes the weight of the bass- especially when you lay the case flat on the ground. The neck is being pushed from the back because the bass body is not lying flat in the case. Over time that can be a bad deal. There are other cases that do that too not just the cheap tweed ones. Look at the thread about the Ibanez becoming a Fender P. You can see a pic of the Ibanez bass in one of those cases and look how the body is not laying flat in the case. Support is needed for the neck but not so much support as to push the neck of the guitar forward.

Whether you get a Fender Case or a generic case,..just let the sales guy in the Music store know that you need a case for a P-Bass,( he'll most probably ask you what kind of bass you have)..... Fender makes cases for P-basses, Jazz basses, Jaguar Basses & Mustang basses & generic case companies make cases for P-Basses, Jazz Basses, Thunderbird Basses...etc
