Leland Sklar has a Precision bass with two split pickups and one is reversed. He has been playing it off and on since the 70's with various artists.

Spector basses came out with the reversed P-pickup and added Jazz pickup in the early 80's.

I saw the first bass that I remember with and a p-pickup and an added Jazz bass pickup was pictured on an instruction book from the early 70's, I think 1972 or so. The bass may have been a Telecaster bass originally but it had the pickup mod and it had a fingerboard extension for the top 2 strings that added 2 frets to the bass.

That guy could play a high F on the G string.

Okay here's the question--- who was the first to reverse the P pickup in a P/J set up?

Spector and Ibanez weren't alone.

Guild did this with their 4-string Pilots.

I like the way the G and D strings have more bass to them.

Mark Hoppus has apparently the same tastes as yours, that's why he wanted his bass having the split-coil humbucker reversed.
