Does anyone recognise this bass?

http://www.marktplaats.nl/a/muziek-en-instrumenten/snaarinstrumenten-gitaren-bas/m691907829-fender-precision-actief-in-koffer-korea.html?c=efb2ef4dc323389c4f92ed10afa33e3a&previousPage=lr#

Is this the so called cowpoke?

That is not a Cowpoke. The Cowpoke is a 93-95 Made in Mexico P/J with a decal reading, "Precision Bass Special."

The serial CN208724 is a Korean made Fender Squier Series serial from 1992/1993. This model is a Precision Bass Active. It's nice looking and not commonly seen around where I live. If I ran across one at a good price I'd buy it just because it is scarce around here. I really don't know much about them other than it probably was made by CORT/COR-TEK under contract to Fender. Fender was contracting with CORT/COR-TEK in Korea then. Cort Korea has a reputation for making some really nice instruments.

Cowpokes are VERY distinctive looking because of the amoeba pickguard reminiscent of the 51-56 P-Bass, the Kubicki stacked control setup and downsized peghead shaped headstock. I've owned active Cowpokes and seen passive ones. Cowpokes are far more common around where I live than a 92/93 Korean made Fender Squier Series Precision Bass Active model which would be scarce indeed. Here are some Cowpoke photos. Cowpokes were great gigging basses in their day. Still would be if you run across one.

Dave,

Were either/both of those yours? I like the black one. Very nice looking.

The cowpoke uses a 22-fret neck while the precision active is a standard 20-fret bass with an active circuit similar to that of the elite I and II.

Neither of those Cowpokes pictured were mine. I had mine back in the 90's. One was a see through white with black pickguard. Dang pretty instrument with see through wood grain. I initially bought it because it reminded me of my 68 Telecaster a lot and didn't care what it played or sounded like. I wound up liking it a lot and ditched a MIM Jazz I was using shortly after getting it. I then ran across a nice see through red Cowpoke new old stock about 1997 or 98 for a good price on closeout. I owned both the red and white ones for a while resting the white one as I just loved the look of it. I don't have photos of those 2 anywhere as I didn't have digital camera then.

If you find one for $350 and it is really good shape and fully functional and is the ACTIVE version then I'd say that is a good price. I sold my see through white one for nearly $500 to someone who just had to have it. They STILL have it! I only paid like $300 new for it with tax so let it go and made money there. Traded the red one for a new Ibanez SRX700 and got $200 allowance on it so I played the snot out of it for 5 years for about $50. It was pretty well used by then. The see through dyed colored ones were pretty cool looking as was the white one. The sunburst ones seem to hold up real well too. I hardly ever see the dyed ones with the clear coat anymore, like the red one I had, but at one time they were all over the place. McFayden Music in Charlotte NC had like a half dozen of the dyed ones on display at one time. The dyed ones were sort of pastel colored so when you have a bunch of them together they reminded me of Easter eggs. I liked them a lot.

There are no passive Fender Cowpokes.

These basses are made by Schecter and called "Model T", aka "Robert DeLeo Signatures".

Have seen a couple of passive Cowpokes. Whether they were born that way or not I don't know.

The Schecter is not a Cowpoke to me. Fender made them not Schecter. Obvious ripoff. Build a better mousetrap...and someone will steal the design.

I have one! "Precision Active Squire Fender" Korean Cort.
I bought off craigslist last year, 75$ with hard shell case, It needed a lot of work and adjustments. The neck seems to be a Jazz bass neck.
