I have to say in my opinion nothing looks better than a 1974 Pbass with a natural finish and maple fretboard. Anyone else agree or have pics of their natural finish basses

I don't have a natural finish P-Bass but I have 2 natural finish Jazz Basses (1x Marcus Miller & 1x 2011 American Deluxe Jazz 5) & I have to agree that natural finish basses are awesome!! :)

Of the 7 Fender Basses that I own (at the moment.. I'm sure there will be more to come)
My MIJ Marcus Miller Bass is the one that gets used most ....... It's really a kickass versatile bass,.... a must have in your Fender Bass arsenal/collection... :)

Well; here's the deal-io:
There's a pretty well-known vintage shop here in El-lay called Norman's Rare Guitars-they have Mint Fenders. Gibsons; world-class collectable instruments.

I was in there, picked up and was playing a dead-mint 60's something J-Bass; hang-tags and everything, as new. A very cool Factory blue finish as well!

So Mr. Norman comes over and says "You know that Bass costs $10K, right?'
And of course what he's really saying is- "If you're not serious about buying it, put it down!" PERFECTLY understandable!

So- near by is this '69 P-Bass- The one in the pic; but-
Pretty thrashed! The bridge was rusted and not functioning, the tuners had been replaced with these Hooded 70-80's version Fenders; actually good machine heads, but...

The bass was---SPRAY PAINTED matte black and dinged all to he**.
But the neck- It has a 1.5" width, skunk-stripe great feeling neck, absolutely awesome, the bass felt so tight!

So I took it to my tech, one of THE BEST in the biz, Eric, of Eric's Guitar Shop.
We decided on a BAII, SD Hot pup, re-fret, Fender standard tuners, new retainer, new knobs and p/g, sand and lightly tung-oil the neck, and of course a good set up.

Eric suggested I leave the bass spray-painted black, even offered to put some more dings in!

But I had the bass sanded down to the natural alder (By Wilkins) and it turned out it had a great grain (pic doesn't really show it), so rather than a 'Burst, or CAR, etc- I had them lightly tung-oil the alder, and Voila!
A "natural finish" '69 P-Bass restored to a player, rescued like a dog in the pound!

This was in ...1999-, I paid...$400 for the bass, and the OHS Fender Case- (Mr. Norman was going to try & give me a generic case, but I said "UH-UH, Mr. Norman! The Sales Dude told me it came with the ORIGINAL case; I'll take that please!"
Did you know that even CASES are "collectable"?

Well, this bass is not a collectable, for years it was my main axe, I toured with it, and play it regularly today.
It has a sweet phat tone that has total mojo and depth, regardless of "book value" and being non-original, blah-blah- i don't think I would or will EVER sell this bass!

Absolutely killer; nothing is like a good P-Bass!

These are my two natural finish Fenders. A 72 J and a 74 P. I'm actually left handed but grew up in a right handed world, so I do some stuff one way, some another. I can't imagine I could play a bass left handed, any more than I could write right handed.
