I was told awhile ago that Fender did some P-Bass finishes in the early 80s that were translucent and part of a "gem" series.

There were sapphire blue, ruby red, and emerald green see thru finishes on ash bodies.

Here's mine. It's a S9 series neck stamped 9-82 on the heel and the pickups and pots date to 81-82. The white pickup covers give it away as an early 80's fender.

Has anyone seen another example/color and do you have pics that you can share? I'd like to see what the green and red versions look like. Thanks! :)

Is that an extra wide neck width? Nice bass.

Thanks! No, it's a B width, their most common. 1 5/8" wide at the nut.

How rare are these fine Fullerton era basses?

Not as much as the Vintage Series basses from the same era...but all things Fender(especially one's built at the Fullerton plant) will eventually be worth some dough. Hang on to it. You don't see many of those...

My 83 has the wide neck thing going on with it and it has a more clank sound than my other Fenders- newer ones and older ones. Just thought I'd throw that in there. I'm not sure when they started with the wider neck at the nut.
