My prime concern was the amps while on the road. Drums were a world all their own. The axes were the last things taken out and readied.

I can only imagine how much of a beating the amps would take with that much travel. I can easily undrstand your concern. Any particular brand seem to do better than others?

Sunn, Marshall, Hiwatt, Ampeg, the older Fender, and Acoustic were Brick ShLT Houses. The original Kustom Amps with the padded Naugahyde cabs, and heads were a very tough road amp also.

Thanks....I'll keep those in mind if I ever need another. It would be cool to have an old tuck and roll Kustom bass rig.
Except I have thought about smaller & lighter. I know alot of manufactuers are making a small light weight amp, but which ones deliver a big sound? :?
Yeah, I want my cake and eat it too!

How many of you remember these? :o
Never owned one myself, but I do remember them.
I wouldn't mind having one now, but they're just too big to lug around on gigs :( ......at least for me anyways.

I'd love to get my hands on one now. Back in the day they were EVERYWHERE, and they were cheap. Of course I was a fender snob then too. Had to have Bassman's and Twin Reverb's.

Oh to climb into a time machine and go back and slap myself.

I was at a music store in Kansas City about a month ago and they had a whole row of those old Kustoms. I'd only seen one before, so it was pretty impressive to see about 4 or 5 all lined up.
Not quite my style though...

They were indestructible and had a great low end. Now it would be great to have one, just reclaiming lost youth I guess, sigh.

Trigger pulling time for a real amp is getting close. So far the new Fender Super Bassman series is very attractive.

Kustom gave more speaker options than almost any other amp company at that time. I'd like to have the 250 watt head, with 2 2x15 JBL packed cabs. Kustom was the real working man's amp. Their PA'a were a solid unit too.

I played one of these at the Guitar center here in Florida and let me tell you what I am in love. It is a great playing bass and it has a excellent growl. I liked it so much I ordered one (Seafoam Green of course). Its neck is similer to the Geddy but not as thin and those pick ups are hot definetly a bright tone almost like the seymour duncan quarter pounders I got in my other jazz. It is a killer bass.

That's great 4StringsNoProblem! Congrats on your (soon to be) new bass.
Post some pics when you get it.

A few months back I played my Squier through a Fender Rumble 350 with a Fender 4x10 cabinet at a local music shop. I thought they sounded pretty good. Something worth checking into.

I owed a Kustom amp back in 1980 I think I paid $350.00 it was used & it was my first major amp purchase,.....I traded it in 1985 for a Peavey 150 combo with a 15" speaker.
The guys in the band that I played in always reffered to my Kustom amp as "The Sofa"
the Kustom served me well as did the Peavey I replaced it with........ :)

I was just talking to Wifey. From June 26th until August 3rd., I'll have worked 396 hours with 5 days off during that time.

The trigger on that G.A.S. gun will be pulled. Maybe. i am practical, probably won't spend more than $1600.00.

You can get a very good rig for that amount. After working that many hours you deserve it! I didn't price the Fender Rumble w/4x10's, but I'm betting it's under that.
The Hartke rig I use (HA5500 w/4x10 HyDrives) was around $1300 tax and all. They handle every venue we play with ease. Of course I'm playing through the PA, but I've never set the amp volume for the stage above 3 1/2. I actually could get by with the HA3500 or maybe even the HA2500. I justify it by telling myself it's good to have plenty of headroom. :P If I changed anything at all I would probably go with 2x10 and 1x15 cabinets.

Just a side note......I know you use the SansAmp BDDI, well mine got a little dirty so I cleaned it with contact cleaner, but it still makes a little noise and cuts in and out sometimes. So I decided to get the SansAmp RBI so it will be mounted in my rack and off the floor. It's great. I like it better than the BDDI. I hooked it up here at the house with my Acoustic 200 amp and the Hartke speakers. I set the RBI on the Bassman setting and the Acoustic on the Traditional setting and my p-bass sounds really good.
If you have enough change left over you might consider one yourself. It will go perfect with a bass that has a black sparkle pg and chrome pup and bridge covers.

I tried a Sea Green at a local GC to day. A beautiful great playing bass. A very well put together bass also.
