I wanna see.....I wanna see....

Yes everyone we are bass guitar whores and, or sluts or whatever. When we're not buying new basses, we're modding them with pickguards and thumbrests and whatever.

This doesn't make us bad people, just keep telling yourself that. Look how we've learned to live with our loved ones who just stare at us when we start talking about our gear. There, that's the look I get. Sometimes this one.

I've often wondered what looks grho50 got when he bought his Custom Shop, then his Squier, then his American Standard all in a matter of months?

I think Wifey would have gone over the edge if I did that!

Oh shoot, I know she would have.

I'll admit I'm one....bass whores/sluts....but I do feel justified of my purchases due to extinuating circumstances. My story and I'm sticking to it......so far the wife is buying it too.
The FCS was purchased because I'm thinking I have a year, maybe two left to play the top gigs in our area. The younger folks seem to like to see younger band members on stage as long as the the quality of music is decent. I'm surprise that they have accepted us as well as they have. So I purchased the FCS to go out in style. :D
Less than a year of owning the FCS I noticed small places on the neck delaminating. I contacted custom care.....they looked at it and said it must be normal wear and tear because they couldn't determine it was caused by poor material or workmanship. So they sent it back to me unrepaired. It's long story that I may post in it's own thread someday.
Anyway I needed a bass to play and then keep as a backup while the FCS was in the shop, hence the Squier. I changed the electronics out to get a little bigger, fuller sound. It's a really good bass, stock or modded, especially for the money it cost, but not one I would like to use as a main bass.
So after hearing what custom care had to say about the FCS I didn't feel like gigging with it. Just didn't want the problem getting worse. I was lucky enough to be able to purchase such a fine instrument, but I can't afford to run it into the ground. So I decided to go back to my roots, a passive p-bass. I've played 5 string for so long I decided on the Am Stnd P V. No regrets with this bass. I should have bought it from the start. I may have bought the Squier as a back up, but I would have least saved the cost of the FCS.
So yeah.....3 basses in a 14 month period. That's alot for me. Especially when you consider I use to gig back in the day owning just one bass at a time, except for the '75 p-bass which I retired from live gigs in '89.

Hey Glen, I'd like to hear about your FCS experience (as I'm sure others would too) should you ever want to start a thread regarding it.

Three basses in 14 months? Ha! You're nowhere near the pace of one of our members. I know your story very well, as I've been following your adventures. I can confess to being an accomplice, an instigator and and a provoker.

I'm just glad our wives and/or significant others don't read these posts.

I'll just say, from his experience, I wouldn't take the chance and spend that much. I'm a strong supporter of the American Standard line.

Everyone has their own experiences and their own opinions. How I feel and think about FCS is directly due to the experience I had with them. Hopefully everyone else has faired better.
There's is no doubt they make some of the finest instruments in the world and supposedly they are backed with a lifetime warranty, which apparently I misunderstood. When they refused to repair the neck binding on my bass after it started delaminating in different areas, top-bottom, down the neck-up the neck, in less than 1 year, due to what they called some type of wear and tear, they wasn't sure what....well I lost all faith at that point. I will never purchase another FCS.
If you are a collector and will rarely play the instrument, or a full time musician who isn't concerned with resale value, then I say go for it.
I'm like oxfan, the American Standard line is a very good instrument. Plenty good enough for me and cost about one fourth of what my FCS cost.

I have no problem with the Am. Std. Series. I believe they are the most solid of the majority of Fender Basses, for the amount paid for them. I had the Ric 4003 that got me into a favorable position to pull the trigger on the Am. Dlx. Jazz. Why not. I put in enough years on the road handling other players gear. When you've worked with so much gear, it's hard after a while to differentiate between your personal gear, and who ever'. Oh well. :D Gear is gear, and I do like it. I'm actually happier looking at bass amps, more than the basses themselves. I do like a good bass though.

That's pretty much where I'm also currently at these days, there's a lot of really cool bass amps & bass effects out there.......& as far as basses go I'll probably get another one or two basses at some point,......the Marcus Miller 5 string jazz bass & the Tony Franklin Fretless P-Bass have been on my radar for a long time... :)

My prime concern was the amps while on the road. Drums were a world all their own. The axes were the last things taken out and readied.

I can only imagine how much of a beating the amps would take with that much travel. I can easily undrstand your concern. Any particular brand seem to do better than others?

Sunn, Marshall, Hiwatt, Ampeg, the older Fender, and Acoustic were Brick ShLT Houses. The original Kustom Amps with the padded Naugahyde cabs, and heads were a very tough road amp also.
