I have a '69 P-bass that I've restored to a player- Bad-Ass II, Duncan 1/4 pups, stripped sown to the 40+ year old wood and lightly tung-oiled:

Image

I've worked it for years, so I know a LITTLE something about what an awesome P-Bass should sound and play like...

Now THIS:

Image

(That happens all the time with this Bass...)

Is among the best P-bass to come out of the FCS...ever.
I'm lovin' it; it sounds unbelievable; the build is off-the chain.

And on top of all this, as a Bass-
It's a FENDER.
That is it!

This Precision Pro is a nice mixture of vintage and modern.

I like post-57 Ps with 51-style headstocks! :P

The configuration is a bit unusual.

In what respect?
The "Pro" ( for prototype) aspect of the 2013 model WAS to combine those elements.

The instrument combines a Modern-era P-Bass body with an older era headstock (I'm not a P-bass historian, so I can't nail down build-era dates.) Works for me.

The (2) SD FCS pups are the business. Wired V-V-T J-Bass style, you'll not hear a bass THUMP with more presence. The combination of the light ash and perfectly radiused neck makes this bass a pleasure to play.
The bridge is as solid a piece of engineering as I've ever see; I've seen a lot..

I heard about this build, and pushed my way through the crowds at the FCS portion of Fender/NAMM 2013. Seriously large crowds.
There it sat, at the end, all by itself, and long story short- I chased it down and got it, possibly the only one so far built. They're made to order with a 6-month leadtime, thru this year.

NOT for everyone obviously. There's a forum thread of dolts in England, serious idiots, who, without having seen or touched, let alone PLAYED this instrument proceeded to slag it as a "toy" or worse.
I guarantee none of them have the chops and skills to play OR appreciate this instrument. Nobody with the talent to play, and experience with fine instruments writes drivel like that.

Opinions and personal taste as to instruments is fine- Take Rickenbackers for example...Seriously YOU take Ric's if you want; I've had (2), a 4003 and Laredo 4004-
Nice basses, but-
The Fender Bass is the World standard, everything else is a wanna-be, and the Fender Custom Shop builds the best. Period.

There are many fine basses, I own (15) others besides this beauty,
The components, the concept, the detail and build of this particular Precision Bass model make it second to none.
I'm delighted and feel grateful to get to own it and BRING the FUNK with it.
It's amazing.

I vote for a standard nickel bridge option. Congratulations on the two Precisions.

Thanks, nothing like a GOOD P-Bass.

Now about that RSD Bridge- It's extremely well-designed and on par with the best of Hipshots, ABM's, etc. even the great G&L saddle-lock!

I wouldn't be surprised if it shows up on other Fender builds, maybe even offered as an aftermarket; it's that good.

I understand your thinking regarding using a more traditional or vintage bridge, but-

Utilizing the new bridge design was part of the overall concept of "old/new" that makes this a really special
design. And, as I think I may have stated before, it plays and sounds like a dream!
..But it's real!

I don't find anything unusual about the configuration of the 2013 Closet P-Bass Pro.
If anything ......I think it's a pretty cool looking bass,....I'd love to hear those stacked Seymour Duncan 51' P Bass pickups in action.......... nice looking Bridge,....... once again I'd love to hear this baby!!
Congrats !! Larry NJ ......... I also agree with you,...with regard to some folks posting drivel on some forums slagging Instruments with out even touching or playing them.....I guess it makes them feel important to make a negative comment on stuff,.... or they could just be jealous that that don't have the Instrument that they're slagging.......who knows...& such nonsense ......One thing that I know is The Fender Custom shop doesn't put out Junk..... :) Congrats one again man & enjoy the Bass !!

I agree w/ Alembic re the bridge - would prefer to see a trad one on this bass, especially with the old style headstock.

LarryNJ - how does the sound of the twin single coils compare to a regular split coil P? Does it have that scooped sound of a J when running both pups on full?

Hey, Gents, thanks! Even tho this is a "biased" towards Fender site, good to see some clear-headed non-BS thinking on the 'ole net!

James-It's an incredibly Cool bass! Standard P-Bass 34" scale body, Incredibly light woods (FCS takes a lot of time choosing) and the nitro Black finish- Wow, just wow.
I totally dig relics, but for my FCS, I wanted a non-relic'd bass, & when I saw THIS one- I went ape-s***!
The stacked SD's are RIDICULOUS! There's nothing else thumps like those, but they are not a one-trick pony! I can eq to bright modern PUNCH and slap with ease.
My main rig for this is a Schroeder PL-212 w the remarkable IMO GK MBFusion.
But... I also have amazing all-tube rig:
Observe:

Image

,,,through which playing this bass should be illegal due to the extreme 4XKT88 pleasure it brings

The RSD bridge has to be seen- It is TIGHT.
The clowns who slagged this Bass- I don't even know how to comment without going off.
So frickin' stupid!
Right! A FCS Bass "an abortion, a toy, a monstrosity, etc"

Idiocy is an illness; maybe there are Meds for fools! 8)

Mickster- Re: the bridge: Again I can understand why some may prefer a standard or vintage, but the RDS is really special, and IMO fits so well with the design concept of the 2013 PrecPr0- It really is a great piece.

It's a totally different sound than a standard split P- Most of the P-Basses with the SC pups have a single in the sweet spot and sound like Heaven...

Well- DOUBLE DOWN! on Heaven when you have a stacked configuration with (2) FCS SD SC pups- OMG. Amazing- Full on: not a J bass at all- To do that, as they are J-wired just tend towards the bridge pup, and there it is. OTOH, dial DOWN the bridge and you get low thunder.
Working with one's amp eq is the thing, as with all basses- I usually brighten the very very PHAT tone by cutting the neck pup a hair; that gives me some low/high mid humps, but I also can run full-on both pups and do what I need to do from my Amp.
The MBFusion has some great controls for all that- Mids, Contour, and High/Low boosts up top.

But really- I generally run pretty much flat all the way.
That's a sure sign of a killer bass.

This is a rare-bird; built to order, don't even know if there's another one "in the field" yet; I know of (1) on order; doubt there will be a lot made.

Price-Wise I paid "Street" comparable to a US Lakland, Lull, or a Sadowsky, etc- even less actually.

And friends (foes, too! )

A Fender Custom Shop Fender P-Bass is the King-
They outdid themselves with this instrument.

It's DALEMBIC. My first name is Dan and that's the bass I have. I combined them for a name. Nobody's complaining.

I hope Fender offers a mass production version of that CS.

sorry I couldn't tell because the bass is black but are there pickups in the neck and bridge positions? Like on a Jazz or is it just one pickup(stacked) in the middle of the pickguard with 2 volumes? I guess maybe I should search for a picture of a white bass to find out but I'm lazy. I do however like what you say about ninnies who have never played and instrument that go off on it and lambast it. Don't worry though they are probably 14 years old either in body or mind.
I have learned here to never group all types into one catagory. Even if my Mex J was challenged and thrown into a campfire-- the next guys" Mex Jazz may just be a thing of auditory beauty.

I think your bass is total cool and I tend to believe what you say about it. Even the bridge. So Bring on the Funk. I'm listening.

Stroker, thank you Bro; the bass is way cool, and that's thanks to the FCS designers, planners, and builders!

That pic fooled me too at first, but there are (2) pups, in the neck and bridge position; it's hard to see them because of that shot. The black pup housing disappears into the black finish, but look closely and you'll see a SD SC right in front of the bridge, which as I said before, is a great component.
(And btw, FCS only offers this model in Black!)

The bass is wired V-V-T, volume for each of the pups, and a master tone.

As far as the clowns who decided that they apparently could design and build a bass better than the Fender Custom Shop did with the PrecPro 2013:

It's a waste of time to slag any piece of gear- Problems with it? Move on; don't buy!
You should have read the crap these uhh, "people" posted, like this Bass ate their family or something!

I've read MANY stoopid things on Bass forums; there are some real champs out there! Normally i could not care less, but this is a very special instrument to me, it plays like no other, and for me to read nonsense from amateur wankers who probably don't play outside of their bedrooms much--

Ridiculous! I DARE them to come here and post that crap, and see what not only Fender fans, but the builders themselves might say about their "expertise"- Funny; never saw a design by one of those uhhhh, "players'

Enough of that stuff.

That bass can BRING IT:
http://home.earthlink.net/~larrynj/danigband2/

Not on that basic site yet, but..SOON!

Ach, who cares what others think about a bass you own & love...people are always gonna have different opinions / likes. Especially with a bass like this that's mixing up the old & new - yr always gonna get some people that love it and some that don't. No harm, no foul. The important thing is how you feel, and that you go and play the heck outta her! 8)

Would love to see some pix of her - have only ever seen the official pic off the Fender site, and its hard to get a feel for her with that 2nd pup hiding black-on-black in the photo.

Enjoy!

This bass forum has the best people on it in MHOpinion. I enjoy it more all the time. I think some of the guys just put up with my shenanigans sometimes but they never reem me out for it. They are cool dudes and dude-ettes ( not sure who the girls are - which may not be a surprise) **** see what I mean? I can't stop.

This is the only place in my life where I can talk bass and mingle with others of the same interests. And it's the best for learning and getting the right info.

I'd love to check out that type bass you have but I don't think I have a big enough check for it. ( I'm beyond help)

That looks like a £90 children's starter bass. Who would pay up for that?
I was just looking & thinking - surely that's a kid's bass? :D
Oh look a Squier bronco.....
it looks like it should come with a 15w practice amp and a instruction booklet

For the record, some ACTUAL posts that I cut/pasted here from BassChat UK, on a thread regarding this bass.

Would I/ Should I care?? Well, of course not, because first off -consider the source.
Amateur Players; Professional Forum posters, dissing a bass they have not even seen nor played.

A P-Bass from FCS.

I put my .02 to give them a reality check, but of course was shouted down by the mob of "kitty-kats" who, given a chance to play this bass, would probably sound as they say in Britain- like sh**te. I say that because no player who can work an instrument would EVER EVEN write tripe like that.
Could you imagine Marcus Miller posting garbage about a Bass he doesn't like? Or Victor?
How about Rainey?
Point made, over.

I like England, been there 2x; people were friendly, great, super culture, totally interesting.

Just like the good ole USA, there are D-Bags who live and whimper on Forums, bass or otherwise.

The Precision Pro Closet Classic 2013 IS one of the finest P-Basses that Fender has ever built. Period.
I know- I play, I'm an experienced and well-versed gearhead with some incredible instruments.
Really.
I play professionally, I play very solidly, with a kill groove and with a tight pocket, and I say this with with real humbleness and modesty, as I know who the greats are.

That Bass is in a league of it's own, and little silly children must be scolded if they screech BS out, and taught, that it's OK not to like something; that's fine!
But have RESPECT and don't blather like an Idiot over something you obviously have no experience with and know NOTHING about!

OK, rant over!
