Hi, I have a 1996 P bass (says made in USA). I know the serial number but I don't know what model it is. Is there somewhere I can look on the guitar for the model number or a website that can cross reference?
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

A couple of photos might be helpful to further identify your bass.

If your Precision says Made in USA, then it's either an American Standard or an American Deluxe.

These basses are often recognizable from the graphite reinforcements in the neck and a notched pickguard for heel-mounted trussrod adjustments.

The Deluxe has 22 frets, active electronics and a humbucker in the bridge while the Standard sports 20 frets and passive electronics with master volume, tone and a top-mounted jack.

Both are different animals on their own.

I know of no such resource as you describe online and searchable. There are some online resources for DATING but you already have the year model.

Send your serial number to Fender Consumer Relations and request all available information on your serial. Sometimes it is surprising how much information they have. There are four basic ways to contact them! Multiple choice is good.

1. SNAIL MAIL.
Fender Musical Instruments Corporation
Attn: Consumer Relations Dept.
17600 N. Perimeter Drive, Suite 100
Scottsdale, AZ 85255

2. TELEPHONE. (weekdays Pacific time zone) (480) 596-7195

3. FAX. (480) 367-5262

4. EMAIL. consumerrelations@fender.com

You can also just show up in Scottsdale. It's been done.

Mind sharing? I have a feeling we are all curious.

He's not gonna tell us! That's not right! What say, we all go to Scottsdale and find out for ourselves!
