I have been looking into a case and strap locks for my new standard p bass.

I am looking at the roadrunner RRMGB ABS molded cases, black with gray interior.
For the strap locks, maybe the Dunlop dual design system.

Do any of you have experience with these items and/or what do you use???

I use Italia Straps exclusively. They are so thick no strap lock is required.

No strap lock I know of works good with really thick straps like I use.

The Italia straps never come off by accident and there are no metal components at all, just leather. I just leave them on all the time.

When I used to use strap locks before switching to Italia Straps I used the Fender branded strap locks of the day, which were actually made by Schaller. Pretty reliable strap locks. They are still available as Fender part 0990690 in Chrome for about $12 from Darren Riley. The Gold is part 0022043 and runs closer to $20. I can't find the black ones but they were around at one time.

As I recall the mounting screw included with the Schaller made locks marketed by Fender were slightly smaller in diameter but a tad longer than the strap button screw used on the stock strap buttons, so if you can just use the ones that came on the instrument instead of the black one in the Schaller strap lock kit.

Fender has a new strap lock system with the big "F" logo on the buttons and they come in chrome, black or gold. These look great and appear to also be made by Schaller because the button part is exactly the same as on the previous design from Scballer but they release from the instrument differently. Chrome part number 0990818300, Black part number 0990818301 and Gold part number 0990818302. Darren Riley sells these online for $14 to $16 depending on color.

Lots of people use the Dunlop strap locks, including Keith Richards. But I'd check out the new Fender ones with the big "F" logo on them. Cool looking....but I don't use strap locks anymore as I have no need for them.

For cases for Fenders, I've always used FENDER cases. For other brand instruments I try to get the correct case that goes with that model also. About 8 yrs ago I started using several Fender Gig Bags and one Gator gig bag a lot around town. I bought an off brand hard case ONCE and it was not as good. I think SKB would be ok but not the real off brand stuff like Musicians Friend's cheap hard cases. I've noticed the Fender branded version OEM by SKB is usually cheaper than an SKB branded one. I take the Fender double bass gig bag to actual gigs usually. It is mighty handy for moving 2 instruments at once. I really like that double bass gig bag. If something on it broke I'd absolutely try to get another one. I've had it for several years and it has held up fine. As a general rule I use cases at home for storage and carry one bass in a bag to rehearsals and two basses in the double gig bag to gigs. I'm not taking any real valuable basses to gigs or rehearsals, they are just players. Besides nothing draws a thief's attention like a vintage Fender hard case.

If I was touring I'd want Anvil brand road cases or something like that. I just play around here and carry my gear in my car. Gig bags are fine for that for me.

I use Schaller locks. They are okay. I've never had one fail, but I generally use the old chopstick trick when I install them to ensure they are good to go out the gate. The strap button screws that come stock are a hair thinner then the OEM Fender screws I think.

I use the Fender hardcases for both my P's. The regular black lined one for my Antigua P, and the Deluxe 70's style orange plush for my Classic 70's P. A hardcase is a must, imo. I have the gig bags from my basses, but I usually end up giving them away to new players I meet who don't have anything over time.

I use the Dunlop Dual designs, and have used the regular design in the past. I much prefer the dual designs. Keep them lubricated and clean and you'll have no trouble. A lot of the complaints you read on sites that sell them seem to stem from a lack of maintenance. You go to the doctor to take care of your body, you need to be the dr for your equipment. A little preventive will always be cheaper than the catastrophic failure you are tempting without the occasional tlc.

I use Levy's straps, and like brotherdave, I leave them on. They're heavy and stay on well. i have a Roadrunner, so far so good, in the long term though, I don't think it will last.

I currently use Levy Straps & Schaller strap locks. ..........But back in the day (the early 80's) I used to take the strap buttons off my bass & then I would slide a large metal washer over the the strap button
(the hole of the washer would be small enough as to go as far as the end of the strap button,....then I would put my strap on behind the washer & then I'd screw the strap button back on to my bass & "Voila!!" an old fashion strap lock.....from back in the day..... :)

I use Schaller strap locks as well. I've used them for years and they've never failed me. The last strap I bought was Levy and at first I wasn't able to get the washer on because of the thickness. Still never had a problem with them. Every week I would tighten them a little bit more until I was able to get the washers on.

As far as cases.....if you play most weekends like I do and are pretty much traveling with your bass several times a week, you probably won't be satisfied with a Fender tolex case. I'm not, but I'm very satisfied with the molded case my 2012 Am Stnd P V came in. It does say Fender on the case, but I believe it's made by SKB.

I purchased a couple of Gator GPE cases to replace the tolex case my FCS Jazz came in and for my Squier VM Jazz that didn't come with a case. I'm very satisfied with both of those as well and the maroon crushed velvet linning they use is a nice touch.

I use Ernie Ball strap locks. I like the positive lock they provide but always give them a little tug to make sure they engage.

Almost always buy SKB cases if I purchase a bass without a case, but I do have a couple basses that fit better in a Gator.

I agree about not buying the cheap big box store cases. Spend the extra for top of line quality. The case will stay with that bass forever.

Hey, Oxfan and Affprod - The SKB cases are about the best protection for the money and I have several here as well. Quality stuff.

Using Dunlop StrapLocks here exclusively along with the Neotech Mega Bass straps on all 5 of my axes. They're easier on the shoulder than most because they distribute weight over a much larger area - especially helpful when you're doing long sets.

If you get a chance, check out the G&G cases. G&L uses them for their MIA basses. A well made case also.

Thanks BMW KTM for the pm.

I went with the Schaller, black. Once installed they felt very secure, happy!
Will probably go with the Fender SKB case. I won't regret it.
