OK. Not many people could afford a $5,200 bass and since the Porrazo was a Custom Shop Limited Edition they didn't have one at the local Fender dealer here.

They may look similar on a computer screen, which is about the closest I'll get to the Porrazo, but there are obviously many differences beyond the relic treatment. Porrazo is ASH, the Cabronita is ALDER.

While I prefer ash, I could make that sacrifice for the money.

Porrazo has a 7.25" radius 1951 U-Shaped neck, the Cabronita has a "C" shape 9.5" radius neck.
+1 Porrazo

Quote:
The Porrazo has a Grease-Bucket tone circuit the Cabronia doesn't.
+1 Cabronita

Quote:
Porrazo has a T.V. Jones "Thunder'Tron" pickup, the Cabronita has a "Fideli'Tron" which isn't quite the same thing but looks the same.
+1 Porrazo

The bridges are way different.
Not sure I could make a call on either of these features. I'd probably just slap a BAII on it anyhow. :?

Quote:
The Porrazo is NITRO finished, the Cabronita is POLY finished. Still I don't know if that is $4,200 worth of difference.

I love Nitro, but not that much.

My main concern with the Cabronita P-Bass is that there have been more than one reviewer on the Musicians Friend website writing about a bridge alignment issue on the FSR MIM Cabronita Telecaster bridge. According to multiple writers the bridge spacing is too wide for the neck. Want to know if it is also a problem on the Cabronita P-Bass. I can't find any reviews of the Cabronita P-Bass yet. But the bridge alignment issue on the FSR Cabronita Telecaster has me pretty spooked. I like the look of the bass bridge, but till I hear from someone reliable that the bass is OK I'm on hold.

Not sure I'd qualify as reliable, but if I ever stumble across one I'll be sure to add my two cents.

I am really digging the new satin finishes Fender has come out with. I think the Cabronita Precision would look absolutely gorgeous in Arizona Sun. Very Sexy :)

Actually tried one at the local music store. I didn't care for the neck, a bit chunky. Set up wasn't really great either.

Seemed kind of bright to me, but I was playing through a Rumble 15 and 30.

At least you put your hands on one. Thanks for your review. I still have to try one myself, but you have taken the edge off my appetite. Maybe I can make it a few more weeks now.

Me like a bright bite, like a single coil bite.

I've noticed this bass, as well. I liked the sound of it from the demo I watched.

Hard to tell from the vids online about the bridge vs neck. Would suck to lose strings though. Sounds like it has a nice punch to it. Still waiting to try one on.

Don't understand what you mean by typical MIM hum.

So what you are saying is that the Carbronita P-Bass you tried had a hum in it? In my experience the MIM passes P-Basses are just as immune to hum as the USA ones.

I just picked a Sunburst model up over the weekend. Yep, big chunky neck! Actually a huge range of tone using just the tone knob from p bass thump, to growl, to bright, to bite. I just have a crappy little Fender Rumble 100 2x10, and can get it to ALMOST sound like the Fender demo video. I think they are adding a bit of OD, fuzz, compression or something to get that sound. Like I said though, that isn't the only sound you can get from it. Not sure what you are talking about regarding the bridge and strings. I have a few pics I can try and post to see if you can see what you need. The fit and finish on this bass are fantastic. I have not noticed the hum that another user mentioned.
