Mr. Nylon,

That is a great looking strap.

Hello Mr. Seismic. Thank you sir. A Christmas gift from my wife and daughter from 2011. It's comfortable, and has enough positions for length adjustments.

My current strap measures at 45 inches from button to button, so the 50 inch Clayton strap
should be OK

My strap of preference right now is the Betty guitar strap by MONO - padded, comfortable and very durable. Plus, no animals were harmed in its construction! I love it for my Alembic which is extremely heavy.

Seriously though now, the only problem I have with the Mono straps is the metal components.

Are there issues with them? Or that they might scratch the instrument?

P.S. I'm not vegan or anything, but trying to cut down on animal consumption, food or otherwise.

I'm pretty sure cow leather is a by-product of meat production and if not turned into shoes, belts, guitar straps, handbags, etc....would be a waste product. I don't think guitar strap companies buy up cattle herds just for the skins.

I don't like metal on straps due risk of scratching the instrument and RUST. The metal components was my primary issue with the ACE straps in the 70's. Fraying would have been secondary. The metal rusted and could scratch your instrument. I like leaving my straps on most of the time. You can't do that with metal components or some vinyl/plastic materials which give off gasses than can literally burn your instrument's finish. The metal buckles on the Ace straps were also notorious for slipping. Ace made some good looking straps but mostly they got thrown away because of the metal and fraying once something better came along. Of course that made the few that didn't get thrown out worth hundreds of dollars now, but I still wouldn't actually use one again.

After years of staining nice shirts with leather straps, I finally copied Will Lee (Letterman - Paul Schaffer Band) and started using those clear plastic straps from Mainstrap company. Then I found that plastic is not friendly to Nitro/Lacquer finishes. I still use them on some basses but not my Vintage Reissues.
On those Fender basses I use Levy heavy weave cotton and Planet Waves cool "hippie" pattern fabric. All my straps are 2.5 inches wide.
Just got an interesting Oriental fabric strap...Makes me want to join David Bowie's band!
