A while back I picked up this Squire 5 string Precision which has Jazz pickups (and apparently 4-string pups at that!)

I put on set of D'Addario Chrome flatwound strings which gave it a nice, deep tone and makes it a great bass for playing blues, classic rock, etc. Now I'm thinking a proper set of 5-string Jazz pups would really make it shine, so I thought I'd ask for your suggestions.

Here are two 5-string sets I've been considering:

Fender Samarium Cobalt 5 String Jazz Bass Pickup Set

Basslines SJ5-3S Quarter Pounder Pickup for 5-String Jazz Bass Set

Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions you may have!

Mastermold, I think depends what you like. You like that classic tone don't you? I'd go with the SCN. The QP are good for crazy thump, more on the low end hard rock/metal guys sound - which I like btw. Another option that you might wanna ck out is the EMG - HZ (passive) for the 5 stringer too: http://www.emginc.com/displayproducts.a ... alogid=181

Good luck man.

Thanks for those suggestions, PJB, those look like very viable candidates! The Squire stock pickups actually sound nice with the flatwounds, very warm and full tone and plenty of volume on the B string (something I've heard others complain about with this bass so I must have a good one). I'm just wanting to make a good thing even better! :D

Of course, now I'm looking at the new Fender P fiver and (if my wife lets me) may just opt to put my Squire "mod money" into getting one of those!

Never fails with you and your toy(s) man.... :D

The cool thing about EMG's is that you can kinda custom set up the tone and what not on it.
