I just got a new P Bass which I love and have adjusted the action where I like it. However, the adjustment screws stick up now and are a little sharp. sometimes I like to rest my hand on the bridge and find it uncomfortable. Any suggestions? Has anyone experienced this? I was thinking maybe adding a bridge cove, but not sure

No ..... never had this problem,......& be careful if you decide to file any srcews that are used to adjust the saddle height & have never done this before,.... try bringing it back to the store & see what they say
.......if it's a new P-Bass then you have a warranty on it so get them to fix it......any filing ETC that you try on your own will void your warranty.......though filing will probably solve the problem....also try getting a bridge cover? ..... just an idea. Good Luck & take it to the shop.

Before you file, if it is just a burr, give your wire brush a try...pull the screws first, of course.

Yep the old sharp screw thing. When the instrument is on a stand or leaned against an amp and someone walks by it and their pants leg or skirt just brushes by the instrument and snags on the bridge height screws causing the bass then falls over forcefully...you'll then wish you had added a bridge cover. Protection is one of the primary benefits of a bridge cover. Even if I remove the pickup cover (and I sometimes do) I only take the bridge cover off for bridge adjustments and then put the bridge cover back on when adjustments are completed.

The question is: do I have to get involved with any type of grounding of the bridge or grounding of the cover if I install a bridge cover? I have read that it could cause "hum"

Actually no. In my experience a bridge cover does not induce hum. It actually doesn't do anything but cover the bridge. You can very easily ground the cover with a short 3 inch piece of wire, however while there may be some benefit to doing that it is miniscule. Still if you have the wire it is a solderless and quick mod. Just strip both ends of the wire, loosen the bridge securing screws enough to slip the bare wire under the bridge, retighten bridge screws and secure the other stripped end by wrapping around a cover screw under the cover and tightening down the cover screws. Takes only a couple of minutes. I've done it and not done it. Can't really tell much difference either way.

Common problem. If you are comfortable working on your basses this is a easy fix. I have a set of fine jewelers files that I use for problems like this. I personally don't like the cover so that option is out for me, may work for you though. You could always take it back to the dealer and have them file the screws.
