I'm asking this question because of some past experiences. I brought about three P-basses, new, over a span of ten years. The dealer just handed me the bass, and that was that. Then, about a couple of months later, the bass needed an neck adjustment. So, I took it back to the dealer from where I brought it from, and they said, they didn't do setups. Well, I was very shocked that they didn't honor the fender reputation, or am I wrong about this? I heard, some retail chains, are not required to setup the instrument, which I think, isn't fair to the consumer. I don't want to mention names, and that's why I'm writing this question here. We all know, when a American-made Fender is built, it is setup, when it leaves the factory. Now, what happens during transport, and even sitting in the store, necks move, and if it is a floor model, these instruments, go through a lot of abuse. I'm asking this now, because, I'm getting a new Fender Highway P-bass, and I don't want to go through any unnecassary changes with my new bass. So, my question stands,Is a Fender Dealer resposible for the condition of the Fender bass when it arrives to the store? If it needs a neck adjustment or bridge adjustment, is that on them?

Interesting question. I think it is up to each store as some of them don't have a tech to do setups.

I'm one of those people that as soon as the guitar arrives home I change the strings and do a complete setup on it anyways.

No they're not, they should but they're not required. I've always ask for set up from the beginning so usually most of them include it in the final price after hagling. Since a lot of guitars are moved around, they don't require the set up at all. Weird right. Imagine buying a car that wasn't inspected 1st by the selling dealer. For what it's worth, always mention the set up when you're buying so they know before hand you'll be asking for it when you pay for your bass.
