If you are playing metal music and are after an authentic metal sound then a lot of people would probably go old school and go for an Ampeg SVT and 8x10 set up, or a similar power spec Trace Elliot, Steve Harris used to use old Marshall power valve cabs and heads, it really depends how metal you want to go and were you are playing, as smaller cabs will be easier for your back and smaller venues.

Marcel Jacob and some of the Scandinavian bands go for EBS, excellent gear, great sound, lightweight which is a big plus, but expensive. Mark bass have a good reputation, but I have never heard a "metal sound " out of them. Then you have the mighty Mesa Boogie, very powerful, expensive.

So how often do you gig, what are you typical venue sizes and how much dosh you got?

This is good set up. TC Electronic RH450 head, with an Ampeg SVT-410HLF cab.
The RH450 head has a great Tube Tone setting that gives the tone of the 90 plus pound tube heads. It weighs in at 8.8 pounds, is a 4-Ohms head, it has 3 memory settings so you preset a sound, and change on the fly. There is an available foot switch for it. It can be played through un-plugged for a preamp, or practicing with headphones. Has a built in Chromatic tuner that's always running, so you can see at a glance, while playing the notes.
The Ampeg SVT-410HLF weighs about 85 pounds, and is on 3" rollers with a top handle. It is front ported, Frequency Response (-3dB): 48Hz-18kHz, and has a horn that the SVT-810 doesn't have. The HF Horn can be shut off, or set at in full range. Maximum SPL: 125dB. RMS Power Handling: 500-Watts, and is 4-Ohms.

you can't go wrong with Ampeg. If you play the "eavy metal you'll need about 350 watts anyway and then turn it up loud.
