Pump it up was a tricky one for me, Bruce Thomas is one very clever bass player and that song has a great series of riffs that make up the entire song and it took me a fair while just to put them all together also Lipstick vogue, tricky to, but patience and practice got me there.

A lot of Phil Lynott's stuff was fun to, I have sometimes found that when learning a track you find a part where its tricky but once you learn it and it clicks in the brain you look at the part again and you think how simple it was you just needed to find the right way for you.

Ah the joys of music.........

The live audio of "5:15" by the Who from the late 90's/early 2000's with John Entwistle's thunderstorm bass solos! Also, something about "Hey Bulldog" by the Beatles always gets me

5:15 is a bass tour de force, but then it is the Ox so shouldn't be to surprised, good call on Hey bulldog, some quirky phrasing on that one, The Real me by the Who is also a great song to study, Johns draws on all his tricks there, spent a fair while on that one!

The Real Me is also so fun to play! Even when I don't know a part, it's still so fun to play. Great song.

the whole Quadophenia Album by The Who is amazing, I remember listening to it as a kid
in the late 70's (especially John Entwistle's bass parts ) and saying to myself Holy Crap!!!
this guy's unbelievable !! The OX (as he was known) was a true Rock Bass Pioneer......
Even current Bass Icon's like Geddy Lee refer to him as & influence on his playing style
( a side note.......Geddy also sited Jack Bruce, Chris Squire, Jack Casady & Paul McCartney as influences on his playing style....)

I can get the gist of most Rush songs within two days, but YYZ took me a few months to perfect. The "solo" at the end as Peart rolls down the toms still drives me crazy because you can't hear it very well. Someday . . .

"What Is Hip?" by Tower Of Power is always challenging for me.
Especially when I have to sing it and play bass!

Fool For Your Loving - Whitesnake

Just working out the notes being played (from the original recording) was hard enough, then putting the various spaces, hammers in the right place .......! Much of the bass line is a separate melody all on its own, & doesn't follow the tune / chords. Took me hours to perfect.

I have not played this live in a band for nearly 10 years, but it's stuck firm & I still can.
