What am I missing....

American Standard P Bass, same Rotosound Flatwound 77 same gauge strings, same effects were necessary, even the same pick Dunlop max grip 1.0 black.

And still cannot get to the same tone.

My sound doesn't sound as much 'punchy' it sounds more 'woody'.

Suggestions?

You might be missing the clank of a nickel plated bridge. It's good to see Richard Gere playing bass, even if it's for a mediocre Pink Floyd cover band.

Same amp? Same cab?

The EQ setup matters as does drive setting

Just noticed another thing. He's not wired he's wireless. Many wireless setups have built in compression/limiting. You are going to need to replicate that also.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Waters doesn't actually play an American Standard does he? I thought he played a 70's P, or a CS reproduction? Even if he has an American Standard he probably had the pick ups upgraded to give him more output. 70's P basses were notoriously over wound. Besides being heavy that was a reason for them not being very popular. I believe his artist series bass uses the 1/4lbs and a brass nut. The modern American P basses are to my ear very tame and don't really sound very much like P basses at all. I would think he would play something with a bit more oomph.

His amp, or amps doesn't hurt going through a monster PA either. That doesn't hurt to boost his sound a bit.

Pink Floyd/ Waters always have had the best sound on anything they have done. Those albums from the 70's and 80's are just magjcal with sound. Trying to figure out how any of the sound that has to do with Floyd was done OR what the sound is--- good luck !!!!
