Several online dealers offer these replacement pups, and I was able to score a set for the starting bid of $25. No one else had bid on it near auctions end, and others I had seen like it were going for about $89 BIN. I went for it, figuring I wouldn't be out that much money if they weren't the real deal.

I've been told that if the part number has 10 digits starting with a #9 that these should be the real thing, and the package I bought reads "Am Std Replacement Pickup", and has a 10 digit number beginning with a #9.

Does anyone know if these are direct replacement pups for the American Standard P bass, and have the same specs as you would find on any new Am Std P off the rack? Or might they be made overseas, and made with smaller wrap wire, or fewer windings?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Edit: The label on the package says Fender, written like the logo on their headstocks and has a smaller Mr. Gearhead logo on it also.

Thanks for responding brotherdave. I'll explain further.

First off, I have already had these pups installed in a new body (Roger Waters) and I no longer have the package they came in, so I can't tell you the serial number. The poles do show through on the back side and there is not a bar connecting all the poles. Is that any help?

I'd also like to say thank you for the help you provide here. You're truly an asset to these forums!

You're welcome but I can't say without the part number. 09 is how it should start. They used to start 06 and they changed the number sometime after 2000.

Fender hasn't updated their online part lists and service diagrams since about 2005 on anything. Way overdue for an update isn't it? But other pickup assembly parts start 09 so it is logical that the pickup itself would also.

The package itself was a strip of red cardboard stapled to clear plastic. The Fender logo and Mr. Gearhead logo were on the front, like other Fender parts that I've seen from Allparts. But I guess we'll never know without the part number then, but I appreciate your help anyway.

This is my second project bass and I'll try and post pics soon when I have time to get some photos taken.
