Just thought I'd give you guys a thumbs up for the roadworn series. I am an old road dog and have been playing p and jazz basses since 1964. I've owned several Fenders since then including customshop piecies I currently use a roadworn jazz as my main workhorse. Amazing! Have not had to make any major modifications to it. It set up better than any bass I've ever owned. It is also the closet to my uncles 64 that I learned on. Thanks Guys!

I was rather sceptical about the "roadworn" thing, also to be honest a mexican bass to, then I tried a fiesta red P, man that was a sweet, sweet bass, I like my basses to be all things Leo (Fender, G&L and EBMM Stingray) and I am currently sorting out a deal on a roadworn, great basses.

Hey that's great to hear. Post some pics if you can.

Unfortunately, for many of us on here looking at pics is much easier than reading. :D

I think the Roadworns are the best Mex basses I've tried. Next would be the Classic 50's. My RW P bass (sunburst) -- I've written all over the forum about it. There's prob pics on here somewhere of it.

I also found a metal Fender"Roadworn Players Union 1946" sign at Hobby Lobby. I picked that thing up so fast ! It was mine at first glance. If you have a Roadworn you need this cool metal sign. It has wings on it.

The thing about the RW for me was- I could care less if they made it look old. It sounds great and plays great-- that's what counts. Plus it's under 9 lbs.
I didn't buy it for it's looks but I do like how it looks. It had a top coat of some kind of dull coat type clear. I polished that off and it looks way more authentic with a little shine on it.

Would love to see that sign. Post a pic if you can.
Honestly I'm more like demarco. I like my new basses to look new, but I understand the roadworn basses are very popular. As long as whoever owns it, enjoys it. That's all that counts.

How is the back of the neck on this series?

I had a American Vintage '57 P, and loved the bass but wasn't terribly fond of the thick poly finish on the neck.

The back of the neck on my RW ---- nitro finish is flaking off. I like it. Mostly down by the volute at the heel and on the sides in the same area. The nitro is checked and will flake off a bit every so often. I've used wet sand paper (dry sanding with it) on the back of the neck several times, There is still a coat of sealer under the nitro clear. The neck on mine is fast and not sticky. The sanding I've done has not really removed that much clear. As I continue to play the natural rubbing from my hand shines up the clear.

Welcome! MIM basses have really improved in quality. Many on the forum prefer them to the American made as a better value. You should get many happy years from it.

Thanks for the info stroker, looks like the RW P has moved up a spot on the GAS list.

I really loved the AV57, but had to sell it due to cash flow issues. Funny thing is that I bought the bass in the winter, when the house is dry as all get out up here, and loved the feel of the neck. Come summer, and humidity, and that thing was tacky as hell. I put up with it as the bass sounded amazing.

The RW P looks like it will be a great substitute.
