Hey TobyG. Hope your weekend gig went great. Are you playing a Jazz Plus? I had a '92 model. Very good bass.

I received the white pearl pg today and just got through putting it on the bass. The pg seems as good as any other. All the holes lined up perfectly. It is 3 ply. Only minimum shielding over the control cavity, none around the pups as on the original pg.
As usual my pics don't capture how it really looks, but to me it looks way better than the white.
I did manage to get a close up to show the metalic in the finish better.....enjoy :D

Yeah, I still love my Jazz 5 string, but if this P-5 is as good as I hope its gonna be, I'll prolly be letting the Jazz go. I look forward to the passive sound of the Precision.
Never have had a bit of trouble with the JV plus, always held tuning and intonation perfectly. I think after 20 years of playing it, I think I'll try to lower the action a bit and tweak the neck a tad. I've always played roundwounds and they are hell on my fingers, so I need to get any advantage I can get.

The white pearloid pickguard matches the candy cola finish and maple fretboard to perfection!

How about rounds on the Jazz & flats on the P?

I have a very similar background as you do. I started off in '78 with a p-bass and in '92 went with the Jazz Plus because of the 5th string. I kept it until this time last year when I sold it after receiving my FCS. Probably should have kept it. It was in great shape and still played and sounded great as well.

I've been missing that passive thumpin' p-bass sound, so I finaly bought this P5....best of both worlds.

I used GHS Boomers for several years and tried them on my FCS, but actually the Fender 8250-5M's that came on the bass sounded better to me, so I quickly went back to them. I'm not sure about this one, but the stock strings sound good to me and I'm pretty sure they are the 8250-5M's. Hey if it ain't broke......

Post some pics of that new bass when you get it. I likes lookin'.

My '75 p-bass I bought used in '78 and my '92 Jazz Plus I purchased new.

That old P is BEAUTIFUL! I wonder if anyone sells an aftermarket pick guard and bridge cover for the P-5 yet? Probably wouldn't leave them on, but I saw a picture online of a new Preciision V with them on it and they looked great.

Thanks for the compliment. I'll hang on to the p-bass. Too many memories with it. I've told my son it's his when i'm gone.

I'm not sure if they have aftermarket covers or not. I might go for the bridge cover, but the pup cover would get in my way. I put it back on the old p-bass so it wouldn't get lost.

My P5 arrived last night! Perfect! It has been 20-something years since I played a P bass and I had forgotten the growl. I love the feel of the action. I don't find the neck any wider than my Jazz V Plus so I hope I don't have to adjust much. The action from the factory was already lower than my current player, but I tweaked it just a bit and was able to lower the strings with the truss rod adjustment even more with no string rattle. The intonation adjustment was already spot on from the factory. Fit and finish is impeccable, but then my other two American Fenders are perfect as well. I don't have pics yet, but I'm getting ready to go play a new gig tonight and hope to get some photos taken tonight. I'll try to get some posted this weekend.

That is my absolute favorite color combo - Candy Cola, Maple, Maple - nice looking bass! I have the same combo, but as a jazz. Sexy. Enjoy!

No I haven't, but it looks sweet. I was tempted in the past to buy one with that combination of pickups, but I never bit the bullet.

I haven't tried the ADP5 either, but I've read alot of good about them. Your's look great chromeface. Thanks for sharing the pics.

I went with the ASP5 for the passive p-bass sound. Wanrted to get back to the basics. Really lovin' the sound.

Here's a few more pics. I'm getting artistic.

I'm sorry but those ADP5s are not mine. I've posted the photos for reference purposes.

I personally dislike the asymmetrical split pickups on both basses.
