After talking with a local Fender shop and finding out that they can no longer get a 2012 American Standard Precision V in Candy Cola because it has been discontinued, they suggested trying Sam Ash. I explained what I went through before ordering online (http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=83292) and they told me Sam Ash is pretty good to deal with. So I took the chance. They only had one left in the Candy Cola. I received it today and I'm glad to say I believe I made the right choice.
The people I dealt with at Sam Ash were great. I told them about my past ordeal and they assured me that I could return it for any reason and there would absolutely be no re-stocking fee.
It's been pretty cold outside so after letting the bass sit in the box for about 15 minutes, then the closed case for 15 minutes more, then in the opened case for another 15 minutes, I finally picked it up, gave it a good looking over and then played it for about 30 minutes. The action is low, the sound is great, fit & finish is excellent. Intonation is a little sharp on the A, E and B strings, but there is plenty of room for adjustments. I'll get to that tomorrow when I get the White Pearloid pg that I putting on it.
Oh yeah, this time no swicth. It is a 2012 model, but I did pay $50 more, $1,149.99.

Thank you Zod.
After playing the bass for about an hour last night, I've played it off and on for about 4 hours today. I'm lovin' the sound and I haven't found anything wrong. Can't wait to start gigging with it.

Just thought to add, this bass has the best B string sound I've ever owned. Great tone and volume.

Congrats for your purchase.

Hopefully this Candy Cola P5 is not defective as expected.

Enjoy your new baby, dude!

Glad this ordeal is finally coming to an end. Let's hope the other one is repaired to your satisfaction.

Candy Cola is one of the best FMIC colors.

Thanks guys. I'll be glad to get all this behind me and just thump some bass and the biggest worry is learning the next new song on the list. Hopefully the FCS (She Devil  ) will be back home next week......in one piece! :D

I agree about the Candy Cola, brotherdave. I don't understand why it's discontinued. I guess that will make mine more special  ..........I know they're getting harder to find.

Congrats on your soon to be new bass. They are nice basses. If you haven't seen the Candy Cola in person....you're in for a treat. I'm sure you will like it.

I ordered my pg through WD Music Produts; http://www.wdmusic.com/
They are one of the few places I found that carry the Am Stnd P5 pg's.

Here's a link to brotherdave's page; http://brotherdave.com/add_parts.htm
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you'll find several links to online stores that sell pickguards.

Just got through playing the bass for another hour or so. Man that B string really sings out. Big, full, sound with clear notes and holds sustain til next week!
I've never owned a bass with a B string as good as this one, including my FCS.
Anyone else own one of these P5's with a great B string?

Here's a couple of pics for Tobyg that I took outside today. The sunshine shows the metalic finish better. I'm sure these pics will help the wait go faster! :D

Yeah Thanks a lot! That's okay. I'm on my way to a gig with my 20 year-old 5-string Jazz. Have to stay busy to keep my mind right.
