Okay, I'm a guitarist who frequents the the Strat board a lot. One of my best friends has finally decided to take up bass after me bugging him to learn for about 5 years. We went shopping for one on Tuesday and after hitting up numerous shops we went to one which I have bought my Custom Shop Strat and Dobro from and I think we may have found a winner.

The bass in question is a 1984 Squier JV Precision Bass. Now, I know all of the history behind the Fender/Squier story in the 1980s. The bass is of great quality, plays well and the frets seem in great shape. We have the instrument on hold for a few days, and I'm wondering if there is any additonal info you guys could provide? The asking price is $250 US- I think it seems a fair price seeing as how I'm finding similar basses going for 550 and higher. Thanks guys... Any imput is appreciated...

Any guitar that you really like and can be acquired for $250 is a steal, no matter what it says on the peghead.

Buy it.

Yes, I would jump on that deal...fast. Especially because of what it says on the peghead and neckplate. Peace, John

Thanks guys. Yeah, I know the history of these instruments so I was really happy that we found one for such a nice piece. My friend bought it- I'm holding onto it for a few days so he can make space to bring it to his house (he just came home from college)...

The only downside is it's going to be hard to part with this thing when he needs it back- it's damn nice!

I found a similar deal. Got a Squier P-Bass MIJ with the E serial number from my local Mom and Pop, for $150. Plays excellent, and has quickly become my Number 1.

I don't regret it in the least!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but most MIJ/CIJ are of superb quality aren't they? I've seen lots of 80's MIJ and 90's CIJ that are just on par with any MIA made instruments. Why aren't they as collectable as the MIAs I wonder?
