I have run into a new question . I got some bass lines pick ups and the wiring shows the tab sodered back and the .05 cap sodered to tone . On the vintage 62 the cap is sodered with the tone to the volume and the tab does not look like it is sodered back to the 250 pot .
This was my first bass build and I had no idea about string through bodies and M/M necks not as good as G/F or Warmouth . I used a light gauge string to keep my neck straight , so far so good on the neck.
Any ideas are welcome
if Brother Dave was near me I would not have this problem..ha ha

Yes it it is .. both wiring are exactly the same . One side of the tone cap is going to the ground via back of a pot. It can't work if not.

Love SD pickups but their diagrams have also perplexed me, so you are not alone. Use the 62 diagram previously posted, it is clear.

Many years ago, I used one SD diagram that came with a SCPB3 pickup to wire a tele bass from scratch with all new electronics once and the controls worked precisely backwards! By backwards I mean turning the volume up turned it down and rolling off treble increased it. Seems that diagram was drawn from the perspective of looking down from the top of the pots as if the pickguard was not there at all instead of from the back of the pots which is where you actually do the wiring. That was odd as most diagrams are done from the back of the pots. I was able to get it right only after finding another diagram drawn from the back of the pots perspective, but it sure was frustrating.

I now basically use two diagrams for Fender passive basses. Those are the Fender Jaco Jazz controls and the 62 P-Bass controls already posted. There is a third setup I use but it only works with the Bill Lawrence WILDE P/J set which has 3 lead wires from each pickup instead of the usual 2.
