Oh man!

Didn't know that. Fender still has it in their bass section. :?

I thought they kept all the colors and just added the Mystic Red/Rosewood and Mystic Blue/Maple to the line up this year.

Yep oxfan, that's what I saw.
The 3-Color Sunburst - Olympic White - Mystic Red are all rosewood fretboards and the Black - Candy Cola - Mystic Blue are maple.

The Pearl pickguard looks great with Candy Cola Red.... & Candy Cola has not been discontinued it's part of the current 2013 catalog as advertised, most probably because it's a popular color ....... I should mention that it's important to post confirmed fact based info & not rumor or hearsay as it causes confusion & is discrediting. IMO

Thanks James Coderre and oxfan for clearing up the Candy Cola mystery.
I'll be adding a pearl pg as soon as I can get it. I've only located 2 online stores that carry a Precision V pg, $70 & $80.......ouch........I paid $12 for my strat pearl pg....3 ply & good quality.
Most others say to trace and they'll make one for an additional fee.

Looks like my NBD will be tomorrow.

it may be discontinued from the American Standard guitar line but this is a bass forum & it's not discontinued & as a matter of fact it's been added to the American Special guitar line.

Personally I would put an extra J pickup in the bridge position to make the low B string growling like a big bad boy.

I hear what your saying, but I'm looking for that good ole solid traditional passive P-bass sound. That's why I ordered this bass.
Started out with a passive '75 P-bass, but have played active Jazz basses since '89. Just going back to my roots, I guess.

It's here! :D It's Here!
I'll get this part out of the way. Some of you on here know me fairly well, at least as well as you can through the internet. You know when I order a bass it's never without some issue. I should have known something was up when they brought it straight to my door instead of me chasing the delivery driver down.
The bass turns out to be a 2011....not a 2012! It's brand new, but......My first thought is bait and switch. So I call the store up, Austin Bazaar. To keep things short, I'm keeping the bass and they are going to make things right for me. I'm satisfied. Now the good stuff.

The Candy Cola is a beautiful color. Those of you that have seen it close up know what I mean. In no way can pictures do it justice. Fit and finish is excellent. No marks or scratches on the bass. Neck is in good shape, nice and straight. All plastic coverings were on the bass, including the tunning keys. The bass came in a very good SKB case and all the case candy.
Love, love, love the sound. Didn't take me 5 minutes to dial in a sound that I would use at live gig. I played it for 30-45 minutes. Did I mention I love the sound? I imagine I'll be tweaking it a little, but it won't be much.
My biggest concern was the neck width, but it's no problem. Didn't really even notice while playing that it's wider than my Jazz. The action is a llittle higher than I like, but I can work that out. Overall it has a very comfortable feel and is easy to play. Weighs an even 10 lbs by my bathroom scales.
So I think I've got my dream bass, a solid P-bass that's a 5 string. :D Looking forward to playing some gigs with it.
Here's the pics;
