Anyone have any experience with the precision fiver? I'm thinking of making the jump to five and the familiarity of the p body and controls just make it a good logical step.

I haven't but, I've had a couple of 5 strings and really didn't like them. A lot of people love them, it''s a preference thing, I guess. G.A.S. getting to you there in Guam?

Yeah got 2 myself a Cort and an ibby, its the string spacings that can cause problems and a fairly good technique is needed to hit the notes clean...Even more so if you are a "slapper", I cant say i´ve tried any Fenders though, A P Bass 5er would probably be quite wide compared to say an Ibby SR model, I always take an ibby 5er to a gig as backup, Never use the Cort though as it has a floppy B string no matter how many different setup adjustments i try..... :cry:

Good luck! It's kind of funny, I started in 65 with a fretted Jazz and played fretted instruments always. Last year I wanted to expand my musicality. I slid into a fretless Jazz with no problem at all. In fact I really fell in love with it so now I play both. A friend of mine has a son that has a Jazz 5, I thought that would be a nice change as well, so at a party at his house I strapped it on and sat in with the jazz combo. My brain would not accept the fifth string. It was going to make it an E whether I liked it or not. Simply could not play it. Kind of embarrassing but most of the folks there knew me and just had a laugh with me, not at me.

That's my Super Bowl Sunday reflection.

The first time I played a five I had the same issue, but the second time I got used to it.

I'm fixing to pull the trigger on one of the new P5s with a maple neck. I have two USA Jazzes now, one 4 and one 5. I once had a P 4-stringer that was jacked out my car and I miss the tone of the Precision. Love the Jazz sound too. But I've played 5s since the early 90's and have trouble without the big B.

I just got my P-5 yesterday. Really liking it. Wrote an initial review on it in this thread;

Prior to the American Standard Fender did an American Deluxe version with a double Jazz Bass pickup in the bridge and active electronics. This model was introduced in 1999 and discontinued in 2007.
