Fender did a signature P-Bass for Roger Waters a couple of years ago.

Roger's original came initially with a 3-ply white pickguard, ashtray covers and an early 70s black CBS logo.

Why not make a Roger Waters Tribute?

Fender still has a Roger Waters signature model with black and black pickguard?

Do you mean like a custom shop one like David's black stratocaster?

Yep, I mean an exact replica of Roger's "Black P-Bass" in its original form, with a white guard and ashtray covers.

The current Artist signature model has a 50's spaghetti headstock decal like Roger's. In its original form the "Black P-Bass" used an early 70's logo.

Do you know when he got the black one? I am guessing it was around 1972?

Why did he also stop using the three colour sunburst? To match Dave's strat?

Hmmm. I suspect the hand of Gilmour in this!

Do you have a link about the previous model you mentioned?

Please specify: the actual signature or the sunburst rosewood neck 1968?

If it's the sunburst '68 P you're talking about, here's a photo:

Image

Before July 1971, Roger purchased two sunburst P-Basses, one of which was used for the final sessions of Meddle and perhaps on every album up to 1983's The Final Cut.

Yes, and more precisely in April of 1972. I was born a couple of weeks before the "Black P-Bass" became his main axe.

I meant the actual signature.

He also uses Rotosound Flatwounds on one his P Bass. I am sure he has these strings on Careful with that axe Eugene and Set the Controls, but on Echoes he might be using roundwounds instead, the tone is significantly different and brighter.

The actual Artist series model is based on the "Black P-Bass" in its current form.

The Tribute version would share the original specs of the "Black P-Bass" as it was then when Roger bought it back in the late 1960s/early 1970s.
