That '72 looks like so much fun.

Does the pickup sound anything like a Gibson mudbucker? I know it's a similar design.

I guess that it does a bit. To me the bass sounds a lot like a P. I think that it has a little less punch with the pickup being further from the bridge, but I really like the sound. I played drums next to the previous owner of this for years and years. To me this is what I want and expect a bass to sound like. (If that makes any sense.)

My experience is that the Gibson mudbucker puts out nothing but low & sub-low frequencies - the Fender humbucker has a lot more midrange available, still with an incredibly solid low-low end.

Mine was modded by the previous owner for a SCPB first, then regular split-coil. When I bought it Jim Mouradian found a NOS humbucker (back in about '94) for it. A few years ago I had it refinned and refitted with an Alembic Activator split-P, and had the humbucker wired with a separate output, so I can pick which one I want to use, or both:

To the OP though, love your unmolested Tele!

Thanks! The guy I bought it from was an idiot for messing it up (two pickup routs, bad refin, Bada** bridge) but his loss was my gain! i bought it for only $250! And the fact that it was already messed with meant that I could do anything I want with it.

Yup! It's even a jackplate from a Rickenfaker! (although technically you would never see two cables coming out of a Ric - it's either mono out or a single stereo out)

Thanks for the info. The humbucker Tele is near the top of my production dream bass list..along with the Gibson EB/SG.
