I also liked the Wildwood models. No 2 alike. The wood was certainly unique. In spite of the marketing claim that the dye was injected in living trees, allowed to propagate for years through the living wood and then the wood harvested, there are some who say they were factory dyed. I have seen Fender factory dyed woods so I believe the Wildwoods were what Fender said they were.

Elvis had at least one of these instruments and maybe more and was photoed with a Wildwood axe often. The top on them is spruce but the back and sides and headstock were Wildwood. He was photoed with this one multiple times including cover art for a single. He played this ax on screen a lot in the film "CLAMBAKE." This particular Wildwood "KING" model is referred to as "THE CLAMBAKE GUITAR."

Check this ad and note the 2 Wildwood acoustics were foreground!

Here's some more Wildwood Fenders:

That Wildwood Coronado Bass ABOVE looks awesome even today. There were few made, but the Coronado was not a huge seller. In addition to some having the upcharged Wildwood treatment the Coronado also was the first Antiqua finished Fender.
So far as I know Wildwood finishes were used only from 1967 till 1970 and only on acoustics and acoustic electrics. Never heard a peep about Wildwood since. At the time it invigorated the acoustics because nobody else had anything like it. Wildwood was GROOVY AND FAR-OUT!

So I assume some of the Fire Series instruments were resprays of finish flaw USA guitars and basses?
They had to make up on the money somehow. Were they all done in Vintage White? You should see my old 94 Jazz PLus. It's a Vintage White respray(you can see the old red finish on the back side) and has a bunch of Custom Shop and 70's names stamped in the neck pocket. On top of that...it's Ash. Wild stuff.

Probably NOT. The finishing dept didn't goof up hardly ever. They had a great finishing dept from day 1.

That is wild stuff. Very wild. Congrats, I'm stumped other than Torres is a very common Hispanic surname. Oversprays were commonly done when it was faster than starting over to fill a color order and were usually done over Sunburst in the pre-CBS days.
