Can anyone help me find out how old my P-bass is? I have it on loan from an absentee owner, and want to insure it, and the insurance company want to know....serial number is E318020, USA made.

Agree with that. 83/84 model. Value on E3's depends on origin as E3 serials were used on both US and Japanese made instruments. Since you said this was USA made it would be one of the last production year models for Fullerton made mass production instruments.

Retail values on these range from just under $800 to about $1,800 depending on condition, originality, presence of original case, location and other factors. Good luck with the insurance people. Would encourage you to get a professional appraisal in writing for insurance company. Otherwise should anything happen it is only worth what the insurance company says it is worth. They are notorious low-ballers.

Is the OP's bass an Elite or a regular STD 83 P bass?

Stoker he didn't say nor post photos, which is another good reason to get an appraisal.
