Are you sure? from what I see this bass still has a Mexican item number,& if you do the 360 view for the bass & zoom in when the back of the Head is visable you will see a Mexican serial Number ...... & though there's mention of string through body bridge,...there's no mention of posiflex graphite reinforcements...... though I could be wrong..

If you see the picture you'll notice the pickguard is notched for heel-mounted truss rod adjustments. Posiflex truss rods cannot be accessed from the headstock.

Also, they're mounting holes in the back of the body which allow strings to be fed through.

The Posiflex system is an exclusive feature for most USA-made basses.

My MIM Reggie Hamilton Jazz bass, CIJ Geddy Lee Jazz bass, & MIA Jaco Pastorius Fretless jazz have the same truss rod access (like the Mark Hoppus) at the heal of the neck & all have vintage style truss rods ....even my MIA Jaco bass has a vintage style truss rod.

Fender always lets you know in the spec's section if a bass comes with a posiflex graphite reinforcement as it's a selling feature that promotes necks that are more stable & this feature is not mentioned in the spec's section....& the fact of the matter is & we can debate this until the cows come home ....(something I don't care to do).....is that The Mark Hoppus bass is being advertised as item #0138201 which means it's made in Mexico..
Sorry but I go with the facts.

This one is a 2004, the pickup is not reversed, but it is thru the body strings.

I just assumed the newer ones were American because the headstock on mine states, "Made in Mexico", and Newer ones don't say either way.

The sales descriptions don't specify either.

If the serial number on the back of the Headstock starts with MX followed by 8 digits then it's made in Mexico.
If the Serial number starts with U.S. followed by 8 digits then it's American made
the country of origin is usually written under the serial number in tiny letters..... it's possible that the country of origin was removed.... people have been known to do this on foreign models....but regardless it's still a nice bass.....have fun.

Hey Guys,

A little follow up.

Now that the bass is set up to my liking and some playing mileage accomplished,,,,,

I like this bass, nice feel, sound and fit.

I've got to wonder if this bass would be more popular if Mark Hoppus name wasn't on it.

I actually had never heard of him, til I saw this bass and started reading about it.

Thanks for all the reply's.

Yeah, Hoppus' name is not one you'll hear thrown around a lot for bass idols. He's a pretty straight ahead 3-chord punk bassist. Nothing too fantastic. His sound does stand out in Blink 182's mix, but that's about it. His bass likely came about as a marketing ploy to cash in on Blink 182's ENORMOUS popularity in the late 90's. That bass probably launched a few thousand kids into bass playing. It also came in some unique color choices (shell pink, anyone?) that probably helped its popularity along as well, getting out of Fender's usual Detroit Big 3 auto color type schemes of well saturated solids and occasional sparkles and stripes. Just my thoughts on the matter.

I totally agree & I have to say the Surf Green body color & white pearloid pickguard is a nice combination, .... if the rosewood fretboard had pearl block markers & white neck binding I'd totally be sold on it.
