Hey Guys,
I saw this bass in a pawn shop the other day, but just quick look.
Fender made in Mexico Mark Hoppus Precision.
$200.00

Is this worth taking a better look at or the price about right?

Concidering That The Mark Hoppus retails new for $900. (street price) I'd say $200. is a screaming deal........ are there any issues with the bass that you can see?

That's kinda why I'm asking, New ones ($900) are American, This is older and Made in Mexico. I don't know their value.
If this looks like a good price, I'll go check it out more thoroughly. (I saw it in another town)

The Mark Hoppus is still made in Mexico,..... Mexican Fenders don't hold the same resale value as American Fender's & to some extent Japanese Fender's......... You should go to the pawn shop & ask questions & you should play the bass...... if all seems fine in the end then buy it & it's a score for you......if you feel it's under priced & want to make some money then buy it & try to sell it for $395.00 ......... if you manage to sell it quick then it's a win for you again...

You should be able to flip it on eBay quickly and double your money. Also note that the colors change on these frequently. Some colors are scarcer than others.

The lack of a tone control makes them less usable for me live. Some people like them for recording. The lack of a tone control does make them sound really clean.

I bought and sold the Hoppus I had for 400. It was Surf Green which I think may be rare? Anyway that was about 5 years ago --- and it was "with case" and I know that's rare any more these days. I put a treble pot in it and had to use a small Jazz knob.

I had a Hoppus bass back when the original run was introduced. It was also MIM. Surf Green, rosewood.

From what I could tell, it was basically like a standard series MIM Fender as far as hardware/fit/finish goes (which is generally good). Same neck and tuners and headstock logo as a regular MIM precision, same bridge (also top load). 'Mark Hoppus' was stamped on the neck plate.

Jazz body (alder, I believe) in surf green, maple/rosewood neck, white pearl pickguard, split coil precision pickup (Duncan QP), and 1 volume control. While playing it, I found I didn't miss the tone pot - but it's probably not the ideal bass for slow jazz or blues, or anything where you want a big warm/round tone over a super punchy kick.

I think the new ones have the pickup mounted backwards. Not sure if they upgraded the hardware or not (not that the MIM hardware is bad).

But yeah - as was said, if it's in decent shape you could scoop it up for $200 and easily pedal it off for a profit if it didn't float your boat.

Three years? Oh wow. That shows how far out of the game I've been, lol.

The Hoppus J-Bass is now American-made. The rosewood P-Bass neck has Posiflex graphite reinforcements and the bridge allows strings-thru-body mounting.

The bridge too. Strings can now be mounted through the body.

Are you sure? from what I see this bass still has a Mexican item number,& if you do the 360 view for the bass & zoom in when the back of the Head is visable you will see a Mexican serial Number ...... & though there's mention of string through body bridge,...there's no mention of posiflex graphite reinforcements...... though I could be wrong..

Hey Guys,
Thanks for all the response.
I went back and checked it out. They didn't have a bass amp, so I couldn't hear it.
I tried to talk them lower, NO, but they through in a set of GHS strings. :D
Looks like it's a 2004.
Here's a pic.

you only paid 200 bucks?? NICE- Hope it sounds good but for 200 it could make one heck of a practice bass even if it blows. Sorry I just say stuff sometimes. I don't want to ruin your fuzzy feelings about that new member of your bass fambilly. :D
