Drool! I think that is my new favorite color in the fender line!

Unfortunately Mystic Red 5-stringers are available only with a rosewood fretboard.

Haven't seen one in person yet. I am waiting for Fender to get them out to the shops.

On my monitor it looks sort of like Candy Apple Red.

Looks pretty much like CAR, except the hue is tad lighter.

I do like the brighter red. The mystic blue might just open up my wallet, since I have complained about the lack of blue or purple.

Looks like somebody took the metallic look from the Steve Harris and dropped into the CAR finish on my monitor. Pops more. We shall see when they make it out to us mere mortals. I had an Ibanez Destroyer bass finished the same way, maybe a tad darker. Neck and headstock were both paint-matched. That thing was a beast. I miss it.

Mmmm, Ibanez Destroyer... (where's the drool icon?!!!) I remember those from the early '80s when I first got interested in guitar/bass...

There is a thread over at talkbass.com (can I mention them here??? :?: ) where they "discuss" (more like complain???) the new Fender colors... Some seem to feel that Fender has nothing new to offer (e.g., the "new" colors are the same as previous colors, simply renamed), whereas I think that those in the know recognize that Fender is an institution that is more like a legend and that their choices as to new stuff should be judged as such. I'm probably somewhere in the middle...

Plenty of us like what we are comfortable with and dislike what doesn't conform to our notions of a good instrument. Precision versus Jazz; Pro Leo Quan versus anti Leo Quan; Roundwound versus flatwound; Active versus passive; etc. Colors are no different and I have heard people state that bassists should be heard and not seen - so no bright colors. All the colors existing are derived from primary colors and they have existed since the beginning of time. Those complaining about Fender's color palette simply want to whinge or live to complain. Since Fender is the 'big dog in the kennel', many people will attack them simply because of that fact.

Instruments are evolutionary devices. When there is a 'revolution' like the Steinberger, some people race to try it and a majority are apoplectic. What would these 'innovative change' people do if Fender dropped every wood body and neck for carbon fibre and aluminum? It's change after all...

Some people are just never content about anything.

True Seismic. Really it is only a question of time before all instruments, amps, even your straps and cables are made by 3-D printers anyway.

There will be then be two main collectable Fender eras. Pre-CBS and Pre-3D.
