Picked it up today. Pretty pleased with it. Plays well, but I'm getting a good amount of buzzing out of the E and A. I raised the strings a bit but I'm going to give it a full day or so before I adjust the truss rod. The finish is perfect but 2 small things: the inside of the lower cutaway isn't contoured perfectly round on the rear edge near the heel and for some reason, the truss rod isn't centered perfectly with with the opening in the pickguard. Really minor things; I'm just picky as hell sometimes.

I'm digging the tone. Seems that this "60s custom shop" pickup has slightly less output than my '04, and it seems to have a less pronounced midrange. I havent measured its DC resistance yet but I'm curious to see where it's at. Very full bottom, and very round with the tone rolled back. I think it sounds fatter and has more low end/bass but its hard to tell on its own. I'm taking it to a jam tomorrow, so I'll get to give it a better test run when it's in the mix, and see how it really holds up.

I'm sure there have been lots of 'reviews' of 2012 Am Stds, so I won't keep going on and on, but here's a shot of the tone pot and capacitor. Brotherdave mentioned in another thread that he had been yet to see the wiring or cap. The pickup also has a brass mounting plate with the rubber/foam, like the '62 reissue/original p-bass pickup Fender sells. Has the cloth wiring too.

Also - sorry if the photos are huge. Not sure how to size'm lol.

Haha, thanks guys. Forgot to mention, the case is an absolute tank. Might be the most impressive part of the package!

I'm really looking forward to taking it out tomorrow. I can't really tell where it stands until competing with guitars and drums and really digging in.

Nice! The Xmas timing is impeccable!

You can see how the truss rod isn't centered in your photo - maybe something happened when the pickguard was being cut?

Looking forward to hearing your review after using it at rehearsal/live!

Absolutely beautiful!!!
That is gonna be my next color configuration. I love how "creamy" the olympic white looks in person.

That is the recent 0.05 small ceramic disc cap. I sort of expected that but wasn't sure.

Nice bass.

If I could only own one bass, it would have to be a Fender American Standard Precision.

Nice bass-- I like big pictures- I think they are the best because I can see all the tiny details.

Took the new precision out for a test run today. After letting it adjust to the temp/humidity here, I did a bit more work on the action but still didn't need to touch the truss rod.

Compared to my '04 Am Std, it definitely has a rounder, fatter sound when the tone is rolled back. Good power in all the right places. Did some slow blues and jazz and it really carried the load (played as a three piece so I had lots of room to feel/hear it out).

Running it wide open (full tone) was a bit different then what I was expecting. On its own, it's bright. Very bright. Almost abrasive sounding. But in the mix that seems to mostly go away. All my notes were heard fairly easily and everything retained a very full, warm tone, but still with a good punch. I don't think it seems the have the full on 'bark' of my '04 (I'm just mentioning my 04 AS because I think it's my best suited bass to compare it with). Seems more subdued in the midrange growl department, but it's capable of more bassy and trebly tones at the same time.

All in all, this bass really sings. Extremely resonant, just feels alive as you dig in and really feel it out.

Sorry I'm not too great with my descriptions here.

Overall, I can't say it's necessarily an improvement. Just different, and different enough that I think it offers a few things my 04 doesn't - and vice versa.

Could we get a photo or two of the bridge and the case candy?

Yup, for sure. I'm at work now but I'll take a few photos and post them this afternoon.

I guess they say the "high mass" bridge should theoretically increase sustain, but I think it's really splitting hairs. The saddles are slightly different (flat on the bottom - so if you actually lowered them all the way, they would be flush with the bridge plate) but that's not going to change tone/sustain. And aside from the 'tail piece' (if you could call it that), the actual bridge plate that mounts to the body seems to be the same size as the previous model (2003 - 2010). I haven't taken it a part to check for sure, but it looks like this tail piece (I'm referring to the hunk at the back of the bridge, that the strings run through if you string it through the bridge instead of through body) is a separate piece, maybe screwed on from below?

But yeah, gotta love the bag of swag that a new MIA Fender comes with. The classic style strap (I don't use it but it's still cool), the cable, tools/allen wrenches, polishing cloth. It's always a nice package.

I never run the treble wide open on a P bass. But that's just me. It's good that they sound bright when they are wide open I think. That does a couple things to you that are good. One is that you have more control over your midrange sound in different rooms. Another thing is that when you cut the treb back a bit it helps with the midrange honk of a P bass. It brings it (honk) out when you lay into it and play hard. When you are spanking it you'll know you aren't getting the high treble clicking and snapping. But you know all that. - I'm just sayin'......
