The concert for 121212

He sounded great on bass! :D To those of you who own the Roger Waters Signature Precision Bass - I salute you! HUZZAH! Vocally he was straining quite a bit. I wish I could sing that bad

I remember 3 or 4 years ago, I thought he looked a lot like Richard Gere but now he looks more like Richard Gere's dad

But in all seriousness - he still looks cool and was really drivin' it on that bass. Sounded great.

I wonder what's up with the sig model though.. a Duncan QP and a black bridge?
The single-ply black 'guard and the maple board are accurate (and the logo seems to be close but I don't know the exact year of the p-bass Waters played/still plays) but I don't ever recall hearing/reading anything about him using the Seymour Duncan pickup or a black bridge. Must have just been part of the collaborationg, gotta make it unique somehow..

Also - not that it's necessarily a bad thing - is his sig. model made in Mexco? Seems most of them are right now.

The Roger Waters Precision, is one of the best MIM Fenders manufactured. The neck is on the larger side, but the Duncan QP is a killer pup on it.

I have the Pink Floyd book. It's the one that has way too much information in it. Stuff like shoe sizes and who was the friend of a friend who was once a friend of a friend of Floyds van driver. I'm not kidding much,.
In the book - more than a couple times it is mentioned that back in the day Waters didn't care much for playing bass and the impression I got from reading the info was that he really didn't like playing it. He just turned into the bassist. I had to put the book down so I don't remember the exact story. I can say I think that he's okay on bass but the sum of the whole deal is that it's all about Pink Floyds songs themselves and special effects and the lead guitar playing of Gilmore---the drums take the biggest back seat in Floyd.

Sorry I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer- it's just that darn book has too much info. At least I can tell you what pictures were on the walls in their first flat.

I like the sound of the Waters bass- it IS a P bass of course.

I've got a Duncan QP in a Frankensteind P-bass and it sounds great. FUll and punch, especially wide open with a pick.

As far as the MIM basses go, I've got no doubt it's a great instrument. My local music store up here has 2 Geddy Lee jazzes - 1 MIM and 1 MIJ. They're both awesome, and I'm honestly not sure which is "better". I believe the MIJ model has been in stock longer though and it's priced about $100 more.

Funny but when I play a signature instrument it sounds nothing like the person who's signature is on the headstock. It sounds more like me than them.

I heard that one too! I used to go to a friends and jam in his basement once a week. His kids would watch us play and every week I'd bring a different bass and when we were done I'd ask my friend if he liked the sound of the bass. After 5 or 6 times (when we were done jamming ) I asked my friend about the bass and his son who was maybe 13 looked at me like I was an idiot and said with distain"What the heck do you need so many basses for???? They all sound the same!!" I think he thought I'd be offended and he left the basement like he had just said something he shouldn't have. We laughed about it. It's true. We all sound like ourselves pretty much.

I saw Roger Waters perform The Wall back in late May of 2012........it was a pretty damn amazing concert........ it was my 2nd time seeing him live as I saw him in 2007 ......he performed 2 sets of music,...in the first set he did Pink Floyd classics & some solo stuff ... then in the 2nd set he performed Dark Side of the Moon in it's entirety ....... this was also a killer concert.

Hey Stroker, is the Pink Floyd book you're referring too called "Inside Out" a Personal History of Pink Floyd?? I have this book, ...... a friend of mine gave it to me a few years ago.....for some reason he had 2 copies...it's written by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason.
