So, I received my 2012 Fender American Standard P bass and it had a medium slash-scratch behind the body.. and a mini mini dent on the neck. Has anyone ever got their guitars like this? scratches/damages? ( brand new from Fender ).. what should I do? should I just take it to a guitar repair place? suggestions and experiences, thanks!

Instead of whining about here, get on the phone with Fender and send that bass back. Unless you wanna spend $1100 and have a jacked-up bass from the start, that's what you need to do.

I think it matters. Them schleps at GC can pull any guitar out of a shipment and check it out and... oh yeah.... drop it!! Or scratch it with those belts they all wear with studs sticking out, And with all the metal junk sticking out of their face and ears you just never know-- they may even get black hair dye on it.

Where is "in between the neck and headstock"? That is someplace I can't describe.

I think the sane, rational thing to do, is, take it to where it came from, show them the problem, then smack them over the head wit it. Get another one that's o.k. and go home. :D

A couple dinky scratches isn't a deal breaker for me. I'd just put more dents on to match the rest. How does the bass play and sound? That sometimes outweighs the negatives.

Take it back. If it's a new bass, it should be in new condition. No Scratches.

When you bought it, did it have the Fender inspection tag with it? A new Fender should have the inspection tag.

The OP works somewhere in FMIC. (An unnamed division.) We exchanged some emails a while back and he did get it direct from Fender and should send it back direct with a note to the QA supervisor. If FMIC treats their own people like this, then maybe it isn't all GC.

In my experience, companies often treat their employees worse than the buying public when it comes to purchasing product.

If the OP got it from Fender at an appropriately discounted price or as a factory second or return sale, it isn't worth complaining, since the damage isn't likely to affect the sound. If he paid full price for a new instrument, then he has every right to submit the Bass back to the QC inspector and get it refinished or replaced [whatever Fender's policy is].

For finish issues and wood dents, it would have to go back to Fender. If the bridge was bent, if a nut was incorrectly cut, or the frets were jagged, an authorized shop can fix those issues in short order.

hey guys.. there's a scratch behind the body ___ like that line I just showed you. it's like a light scrape- like if a sharp nail scratched it.. and there's a tiny tiny tiny tiny light dent on the neck that's the size of a period mark.kinda like this " . " anyways.. yes it had the inspectors tag and everything on it.. the new sticker film on the tuning keys, the pickup. came straight from fender.. but my question is.. all new fender basses ( american ) will have some scratches.. right? because the fender inspectors DO inspect it.. like test the guitar out.. etc.. my only concern is.. what if the finish cracks and breaks.. haha I have weird thoughts.. its a 2012 fender american p bass with the poly finish.. so i shouldnt be too worried..

1. the finish will be fine ( I can get the finish fixed by a guitar repair shop?
2. will the tiny tiny light dent.. the size of a period mark- like a dot make the neck chip??

These guys can tell ya', I've had a lot of new Fender Am. Std. Basses. Fresh out of the case as you described. None of mine were in the scratch, or ding condition you mention your's is in. (no matter how minor the scratches, or dings)
