I got it for $179 in Boston a few years ago, and I had to change the pick guard on it because it broke on the plug in jack. So I got a nice mother of pearl pick guard at the Dallas guitar show a couple of weeks ago and while i filed the pick guard for the pick ups to fit, one of the tunning keys fell off the head stock. I found the the screws loose. 2 of the screws on the back of the tunning keys do not hit the wood. Its just another example of short cuts and poor craftsmanship from CHINA. Other than that the bass plays like a beast, and is an awsome work horse bass.

I know it sucks, but for $179, you can't really think it's going to be a great quality instrument can you? I think that's why people are amazed on how great the Vintage Modified series are for the money. It is what it is, $179 starter bass.
